I love this block - the nativity scene on the front is glossy and beautiful. The scripture on the back side is perfectly placed. Shipped quickly, arrived safely, and is now proudly displayed in the foyer of my home for all visitors to feel the warmth of the holiday season. Thanks so much MTD Creations, your work is just beautiful!
A devoted wife, mother, and love making decorative items for people. I love my life, and love and appreciate the support from my family.
When I was in high school, my family hit rough times. My dad was unemployed, and couldn't find work. Being the oldest of 6 kids myself, knew I had to help as much as I could with so many little brother's and a sister to feed. So I would babysit, or clean houses, and give the money to my mom. Money was scarce.
When I turned 16, I knew there was no money for presents, not even a cake to celebrate. However, my mother really wanted me to have a gift, so she made me a potpourri doll out of scrap material she found. That was my one and only gift. I loved it. It was the perfect gift. She made it to look like me. It even had the same fabric as one of my shirts did. It was the most precious birthday gift she ever gave me, because I knew it came from her heart.
As an adult, I still have that same doll, and I am reminded of the sacrifice my parents went through because they loved me. I decided I wanted to make a doll for my little girls to make them feel as special as my mom did for me. So, I did. My friends and neighbors loved these dolls so much, that they wanted me to make some for them, and their girls. My dolls became a hit.
One of my neighbors begged me to make several, so she could sell some for me at a farmer's market. To my surprise, she sold every one. I had so many people wanting more, I started making more.
I also decided to try to make my own cookie jar lids. My mom had some she did, and let me use them as a pattern. I taught myself how to paint since my mom couldn't teach me, and really just wanted to do it for me. With 6 kids, we eat a lot of cookies, and have our own cookie jar. I wanted a lid for every holiday, and then decided I wanted one to represent every month. My kids love them.
When friends and neighbors came over, they noticed my lids, and wanted to know where to find one. When they found out I made them myself, again, they wanted me to make more and sell them.
My sister-in-law introduced me to Etsy, and wanted me to start my own shop. I was hesitant, not having posted anything online before, but I'm so glad I did. I love sharing ideas, with people from around the world.
That's how I started this adventure. Since then, I have started my own booth at local craft fairs, and also have discovered the beauty within strange shapes and pieces of wood. I get many custom orders, especially from my husbands work, (the local ambulance service). I've done firefighting lids, dogs that looked similar to their pet, or themed items from their service. Not everyone has wanted a cookie jar lid, but some a sign, tile, or a table centerpiece.
I have always put my "Faith" and family first. In doing so, I've been blessed to learn so many other gifts and talents I didn't know I had. Exploring idea's is so much fun. Starting with just a piece of wood, and watching it take form in one way or another, is a neat experience.
"Creating for you" has been a fun and wonderful adventure.
