This is the second time I've purchased a drawing from Jennifer. I love the beauty and simplicity of her artwork. It's wonderful that she shares her art with us! Thank you!

Wonderful unique pendant! It is beautifully detailed and meticulously hand-crafted. Jennifer is an enormously talented artist and metalsmith. . .

Wonderful, and thank you so much for sending along companion piece! As ever I love your bold, graphical designs. This and its friend adorn my office to add some visual spark to my day. ❤

This ring is so bold but also so comfortable! I've been wearing it constantly. And as ever, I get lots of comments and compliments on it -- it's truly unique and special. Now I have a real dilemma between which Musibatty ring to wear on a given day because I've collected a few beloved pieces over the years, and I'm attached to all of them!

About

My Story

I was born in the mountains outside Mexico City where I grew up among black lava sand dunes in a house with thick adobe walls built by my father. I had a creative childhood. My mother, a textile artist, filled our home with art supplies, and from her I learnt to draw, paint, batik, dye, sew, punch rugs and make jewelry.

As a child, I roamed the countryside looking for pre-Hispanic chards and figurines. Finding a link to the past filled me with wonder, and through my discovery of ceramic fragments I connected with ancient craftspeople. Although never complete, the chards felt strangely whole and self-sufficient, like symbols or visual stand-ins for the people who had made them. Since then, I have longed to find a visual vocabulary of my own that could communicate at a primal level with that part of us that remains constant, regardless of time.

At the start, clay was my preferred medium. I built large, hollow, coil-formed pieces that were unconscious simplifications of objects I encountered in daily life: vessels, buildings, trees and tools. As a silversmith, I continue to explore the same visual language I developed in ceramics, with the added challenge of making wearable pieces. When I draw or paint, my exploration is more graphic.

I continuously revisit self-contained forms in my work. My art speaks of solidity and weight, of rock and mineral associations. Each piece is still and frontal. As I work, I look for balance between positive and negative space so that both coexist. I strive to be as present as I can to each step of the creative process, letting the piece become what it needs to be, understanding the work is not a production, but rather an exploration.

Welcome!

My name is Jennifer, and I am the jewelry artist behind MUSIBATTY (pronounced moo-see bah-tee).

I inherited a unique visual and creative language from my parents, which is why I named my creative self in their honor, joining their last names: Musi and Batty. My mother –Julia Batty– is a British-American textile artist. My father –Jorge Musi– is a Mexican-Lebanese architect. MUSIBATTY is a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of my ancestors.

I hand-build all of my jewelry in my studio in Mexico City, using 100% recycled sterling silver recycled from photographic processes.

Thank you for reviewing my shop policies.
