About

MW Soapworks - Fine Soaps and Body Products for a Natural Clean

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to handmade soaps. When I was in college, I would walk down to the Farmer´s Market to buy beautiful soaps for myself. Whenever I found myself at any type of maker´s market, I always managed to gravitate towards the herbalists and soapmakers. I always had so much respect for the women I saw that got to play with herbs and make soap for a living. I dreamed about a day when I would have the resources and space to start making soap myself!

For many years, I was intimidated by the chemistry behind making soap and so it remained a future goal of mine. When volunteering in Costa Rica, I watched a man make soap out of only four ingredients: palm oil, pig fat, lye, and water. While the soap was indeed rustic, I saw that soap could be made in small batches in whatever space you have. Now I make soaps in my soap studio in my little house in beautiful Bellingham, Washington. Visitors always comment on how delicious my house smells!

Because more than half of what we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bodies, I use only ingredients that I happily use on my own body. That includes mosturizing oils, sustainably produced palm oil, organic botanicals, and phthalate-free fragrance oils whenever fragrance is used.

For a balanced life, eat well, dance regularly and use handmade soap!
