About MacutoJewelry

Sales 42
On Etsy since 2017

Macuto is the bag campesinos (farmers) used in the Caribbean Island of Quiskeya (Haiti/Dominican Republic). It is traditionally woven using the leaves of a special palm three, called guano. Growing up in small village I naturally became skill making crafts, like my own toys and weaving macuto. My grandfather's Macuto was a magic bag where you could find everything imaginable. When I started traveling and making jewelry, my backpack became my very own magical Macuto, my house and workshop full of treasures and endless possibilities that make life on the road more enjoyable. When deciding on a name for my shop, I thought of Macuto as a way to honored my family, tradition and culture.
