About

Hi there!
And thank you for visiting.

I'm Amanda, pleased to meet you. I'm the founder, designer, maker, and heart and soul behind Moonen & Maganda. My passion for handmade goods started when I was young. I was born, raised, and still reside in Las Vegas, NV. As a child and teen growing up in Vegas I had to find things to occupy my time, because let's be real, there's not much to do in Vegas for people under the age of 21. Besides the normal things, like going to the mall or going bowling on the weekends, I took interest in sewing, cross-stitching, and creating tapestries with my grandmother on my dad's side. Those memories are what made me want to start making them again. While delving back into tapestries, I began to take interest in yarn and macramé wall hangings. Although tapestries are something I'm keeping to myself at the moment, I've now expanded from candles and have added yarn and macramé wall hangings to my shop.

Like most women and hey, even men too, on the planet I enjoy a nice, relaxing candle (or 2, or 3, maybe even 4) to set the atmosphere and fill the air with its smell-good fragrance. I found I spent so much on store-bought candles that I might as well have just have made my own. That idea transcended into selling candles on Etsy with my friend and former roomie, Meg. We started as Maganda Treasures, and after some changes, I have re-branded as Moonen & Maganda to incorporate my ever-growing passion for designing and making, not only candles, but wall hangings as well, amongst other soon-to-come handmade home décor items.

The decision to re-brand wasn't easy. I loved the aesthetic and products we created as Maganda Treasures, but I wanted a new look as I was beginning to work on new items that came from new inspirations. I kept Maganda in the name because I still wanted a representation of Maganda Treasures because I was going to carry on with some of the candles, and I loved that it's a representation of my Filipino heritage, as it means "beautiful" in Tagalog. My heritage is what has inspired this new venture. Although the word "Moonen" has no definition, I decided it was a nice addition as it was my great-grandma's maiden name, on my father's side - my Belgian side, and it brought representation of my Belgian heritage into the shop name.

My products are thoughtfully handmade with plenty of attention to detail. By taking inspiration from both sides of my heritage, I've found influence to take inspiration from cultures, cities, and countries around the world. I design my products to be fun and unique - my hope is that you enjoy them just as much as I enjoyed making them! And stay tuned for more new products!

Again, thank you for stopping by. I hope you find something you love!
