Maggie, I love your Ocean pendant. It is stunning in its detail and craftsmanship and looks even better when actually held. The grey silk ribbon sets it perfectly. The piece is accurately shown and described, packaged securely and packaged in a lovely gift box and promptly shipped out. Thank you so much for offering this piece on your shop site.
We all need some way to express our creativity to be happy.
How did you start your shop? How does it all work?
I have been a silversmith for almost 28 years now. Being a busy mother of five kids is my most important role, but being a silversmith and designing and making jewelry is my creative outlet that keeps me happy, hence everyone else in the house benefits from it also. My studio is attatched to our garage. It has great light and I am very happy creating there. I can walk a short way to the main part of the house and keep up with whatever is going on with the kids. They like to keep me company in my shop too and come out and listen to music and get creative too.
Slowly over time I have built my jewelry line, website, and Etsy shop. I do several art shows a year and am slowly getting my jewelry out to stores in the area. We live on the southestern Connecticut coast, near Mystic.
I think that it all works because I can work at my own pace. I make most of my jewelry to order, so allow myself a day or two to make an item before I have to ship it. I try to be as quick and responsive to my customers as possible, and that is very important to me. I think that what also helps it work is that I take great care to have excellent quality. I will not ship anything unless it is as perfect as possible. I take pride in that.
I am a trained silversmith since 1984 and loving mother of 5 teenagers who finds her creative flow designing and creating nature inspired jewelry. The kids are always welcome and come in the studio often to see whats going on.
Hello! My name is Maggie Platte and I have been a silversmith for 27 years. My full name is Margaret Platte Robinson. I live in Pawcatuck, CT USA. All of my jewelry is designed and made by me. I begin everything that I make with an idea and a rough sketch. I refine the sketch until I have the entire piece pictured in my head. Then I either fabricate a piece from silver sheet or wire, or I begin by carving a wax master model that is cast using the lost wax casting method. This is my creative passion. I love to make jewelry that is inspired by nature, and I wear my jewelry every day. It all blends together very well and I am always changing it around. Please take time to visit my website to learn more about me at www.maggieplatte.com Thank you!
