Announcement   MagicStones' specialty is creating exquisite, handmade cabochons of agate, jasper and other semiprecious gemstone for the discriminating jeweler or collector.

I make all my cabochons by hand in my home studio. Unless otherwise noted all my gems are domed on the front and are flat with a slight bevel on the back for ease in setting. The sides are cut at a slight angle (12.5 degrees off of perpendicular). I polish the front, back and sides of each stone.

I hope you enjoy looking at MagicStones' handmade cabochons as much as I enjoy making them. I plan on adding more cabs every day so please check back to see what is new.

Thanks for visiting,
Bill

This is the first Chinese writing stone I've purchased ever, but the design on this cab really caught my eye! Love it

I love this OJ cab, the colors are very striking. It will make a beautiful pendant! Thanks Bill.

I just finished restoring this vintage Highland Park saw. This is the first stone I have cut with it. She works beautifully.
Spring Break! Just got a pile of high end, old stock ocean jasper. So excited.

About

Finding Magic in Stones

Stones have always spoken to me. I started collecting rocks when I was a kid and to this day I can not walk down a dirt road without staring at the ground searching for that hidden treasure. My love of rocks over the years evolved into the lapidary arts. First I got a tumbler and polished stones, then a vintage rock saw to see what was inside of stones, and now I have a shop full of tools and I am in pursuit of the perfect cabochon.

I start with rough rock and slab it up on one of my diamond saws. Then I look at the slab, sometimes for days, searching for the magical portrait that nature hid in the rock. When I find the cabochon I trim off the excess rock, grind it to shape and finally polish the gem.

I named my Etsy shop MagicStones because I am amazed at how beautiful and magical nature can be. Each of my cabochons is an attempt to express that magic.

I am a self taught lapidary and have been making cabochons for 15 years. In addition to being a gem maker I am also a father of two awesome kids, a husband to an extraordinary woman, a 3rd grade teacher and a comedy juggler (yes, I can juggle fire).

Photos
The photos are taken with a Nikon SLR digital camera with a 50mm macro lens. The photos are taken 12 - 18 inches under state of the art 50-watt photography lights (4700k). I never enhance photos to make them look better, rather I do my best to capture the gem as it truly looks. I also try to take pictures with different color backgrounds to give a better idea of the stones true color. Different computer monitors may show variations in color.
