Canadian privacy laws are already quite similar to the new EU GDPR privacy policy, but just to be certain everyone understand what this means, here is how I use the information I am given by Buyers through Etsy.

1. The information I receive is a shipping address and name. I have no access to any financial information, that process is solely between the Buyer and Etsy.

2. This information (name & address) is shared only with Canada Post/a comparable shipping company as is required to ensure your package arrives to you. I do not keep records of individual purchases throughout the year beyond paper shipping stubs and when a sales manifold is printed for tax purposes, identifying information is scrubbed as per existing Canadian laws.

3. I keep a Buyer’s name & address only as long as is needed to mail their parcel. After that time (usually 5 days max), the only way to access that information again is through Etsy’s system. It never enters my own electronic record keeping system.

4. I operate in Canada, where it is illegal for any Seller to contact a Buyer (prospective, current, or past) outside of the parameters of the current transaction without their written consent (ie, advertising, mailing lists, and sharing of said contact info to third parties).

5. Buyers are welcome to message me if they have any further questions about how their personal information is viewed and used by me for the purposes of fulfilling their order.
