About MaisyPlum

On Etsy since 2013

Colourful, Enamel Jewellery handcrafted in the East Sussex Countryside!

The art of enamelling has been around since 1300 BC, its popularity not surprising given the bold, compelling colours and striking, intricate jewellery that can be created.

Luckily for me, crafting techniques are not quite so ancient. Rather than hunching over bellow powered log fires and designing by candlelight, I can work in peace from the calm tranquillity of my home studio – a peace often broken by playful children and excited hounds.

My name is Jo Pearce. I’ve been working with enamel for over 5 years and have recently embarked on another learning curve using fused glass.

Completely self-taught, I love combining my own enjoyment of trends and fashion with the elegant, timeless appeal of enamelled silver and copper jewellery. And yes, I do work solely with silver and copper as well, but I tend to find most pieces just call out for a little colour.

Each piece is created solely from my own designs. I use both kiln and torch fire, the different heats and precision of movements allowing for more variety in the effects. Different techniques achieve the array of colour and stunning sheen that is characteristic of enamel, from glistening greens to vivacious blues, stunning reds and glorious yellows.

By controlling every aspect of the design, even to crafting my own beads and enamelled copper head pins, I ensure each piece delivers a quality I can be proud of.

After all, I want you to enjoy wearing each piece as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Frequently asked questions
What is enamel?

Enamel is a glass in a powdered or liquid form which, when heated turns molten when applied to various metals. Enamel can be kiln fired or torch fired and once it cools it becomes a solid and vibrant colour.

How do I care for my enamel pieces?

Due to enamel being glass, it can be prone to shattering and breakages if dropped although this rarely happens.

Bowls should be hand washed only and carefully dried with a soft cloth.

Can a piece of jewellery be made in another colour?

The answer is YES absolutely. Feel free to message me and I will be happy to discuss any preferences you may have.

Will each piece be replicated exactly the same?

I will endeavour to create the same item you see in the photo if it is not already made up. However, some techniques I use will always create a different end result ensuring that each piece is unique to you.

Care instructions

Copper and sterling silver tend to tarnish over time but they can both be easily cleaned using appropriate cleaning solutions, many of which are easily available in hardware stores

Always use a soft cloth when cleaning exposed areas, never use abrasive items against the metal or the enamel.
