Glimakra Weaving Studio--traditional techniques in untraditional manners

Although I had done a little weaving in Sweden, it wasn't until after I moved to the US in 1961 that I took my first weaving class at the Berkeley Adult School. Four years later, my parents came to visit and brought with them a Swedish loom. From that time on, all of my looms have been made in Sweden, mostly by Glimakra, and I am a Glimakra dealer. I started teaching in 1968 in my garage. When I outgrew that, I opened my first studio in a storefront.

While there has never been a time that I wasn't a weaver, I became a long distance runner, inspired by my husband and other runners I would see on my way to practice driving (which I didn't learn until I was 38) at Aquatic Park. Fortunately, my children were in childcare which gave me lots of time to run. Eventually, however, I had several injuries and turned my focus back to weaving. I loved weaving rugs but at some point, they started crawling up the walls. This coincided with my substituting artists groups for running clubs and with the encouragement of other artists, I began to identify as one myself.

I have been my own boss and sole employee since 1968.
