About

Why I do What I do...

Mallory’s Candles was created to nurture my creative side. After 30 years in corporate jobs, I found myself part of the down-sized America. Looking back, it was such amazing turning point in my life. Un-encumbered by conference calls and PowerPoints, I woke up the next morning with a completely fresh outlook. I wanted to learn to make candles. I had the time so I dove into it with gusto.

After days of online research into candle-making, supplies and tools, boxes started to arrive containing the pieces and parts of this new adventure I just started. I thought, what would happen if I made a mistake? I had never attempted anything like this. Then, I thought “so what” it is just for me. I realized I couldn’t fail. Pound after pound of soy wax was melted, scents were mixed and remixed, mistake, mistake, some dropped wax, and then... a wonderfully scented candle was made.

I use all-American products to create these wonderful candles. Soy beans is from mid-west American farmers is used to create the wax. Natural oils and extracts are used to produce the scents. A Charlotte-made product using all-American ingredients is fundamental to my goals.

First, these just burned in our house. Then, gradually friends wanted them. By word of mouth, more friends and then friends of friends. Soon I was part of an artists’ co-op in Waxhaw, NC, and various other consignment shops around Charlotte. The more candles were made the more people started coming back for more and for refills.

I still make Mallory’s Candles basically the same way as I did the first day in small batches by hand using only the best American-grown ingredients. Lots of care and attention goes into each candle. Granted, over time the technique has improved. Blending the fragrances at just the right temperature is the key to creating the highly fragrant American Soy and then pouring into simple elegant clear glass containers.

My goal is to create artisanal candles you will want to burn in your home time and time again.
