Icons are an essential and distinctive part of Christian culture.
I trained as an artist in Communist Russia and started painting icons in Northern Russia 35 years ago. When I moved to Belgium to marry 20 years ago I continued my icon painting, and also started teaching and writing about icons. Icon-painting is my way to God.
Icon painting demands considerable technical skill, a profound understanding of the
Orthodox religious tradition and a deep sense of beauty. A well-made icon is more than decoration, it carries you into the heart of the Divine.
All my icons are in egg-tempera on wood, carefully varnished to keep the brightness of the colours. I also produce icon studies on paper and other decorative items - mainly painted wood boxes with traditional motifs.

She sent me a message very quickly informing me that she accidentally sold the icon I had hoped to purchase (an honest mistake!) but offered me one of three icons to choose from as a replacement or offer me a refund! The icon was delivered extremely quickly despite me living in Sydney, Australia and it has been a joy to have! I love it dearly. I cannot recommend Irina enough!

Do you paint icons to order?
I also paint to order: let me know the desired subject and size, and I will come back to you with a sketch. Larger icons can also be painted on canvas for easier transport. For icons painted to order, please count three months’ painting, varnishing and drying time.
