The Marion's Mittens shop was created when a grandmother (Marion) asked a granddaughter (Laura) to help sell some mittens she'd knitted. We set up an Etsy shop that very day and got off to a great start. Many people who want to wear or gift mittens like the ones their own grandmothers might make. That's what you'll find in our shop!

Marion's mittens and baby sweaters are knitted from Marion's patterns dating back more than 70 years to the 1940s. She's certainly a pro and has knitted thousands of pairs. Laura learned to knit from Marion. She also knits mittens ad other items for the shop. Both Marion and Laura have won prizes for their work and judges have described the work as being "precise” and “beautifully finished."

Our mittens are knitted in the round using small double pointed needles (size 2, 3, or 4). Small stitches result in a tight knit of our medium weight yarn, without added bulk. Our method takes longer than some of the chunky styles you may see, but we really prefer the result! An adult pair takes a full day to complete, while the smaller sizes take a few hours to knit.

Our knitted items are made from acrylic yarn which is soft, stretchy, and machine washable. It's also great for people with skin sensitivities and allergies who might have reactions to the lanolin in wool. For those who prefer a natural fiber, we occasionally offer items that have been knitted from alpaca fiber or superfine merino wool.

You'll also find scarves and baby afghans in our shop. These items are available in a variety of colors and make great gifts!
