About

Handwoven Scarves and Shawls, Soft Fluid Fabrics

A visit to a new friend's home back in the late 70's, introduced me to weaving. I had tried crochet and knitting. Neither held my interest for long. Weaving was a whole new story! I was intrigued by having the freedom to design and produce a totally unique fabric of my own choosing using the colors and pattern I, myself, selected. What I wove could be a finished item or yardage. I could create 'my' kind of fabric - soft, drapeable, full of character, and just begging to be touched!

Both texture and color excite me. The world around me is full of color suggesting so many combinations and explorations. Translating those combinations into cloth is shear fun! I can produce texture by using novelty yarns with bumps and slubs and loops built in during spinning. But I can also create texture by the weave structures with which I work. So many possibilities, so many combinations, so many variations! Who knew creating cloth could be a lifelong exploration? Enjoy the exploration with me and thanks for visiting!

I am an anthropologist and biologist by training, but weaving is what I choose to do. I find it exciting to create a piece of fabric to my own specifications. The fibers and colors available to me make the possibilites for design endless.
