Announcement   Welcome to Maritime Mama. I started cloth diapering with my son in early 2010 and discovered that I also loved making cloth diapers. Although my son has been long out of them and I only get to sew in my spare time, I still love creating diapers for others. I specialize in One Size Cloth Pocket Diapers with reinforced welt openings. I am an approved seamstress for the Sprout Snap One Size Pocket Diaper which range in size from approximately 8-30+ pounds.

I hope you find something you like, but if not, I would love to create something just for your little one. I have enjoyed sewing each and every diaper listed in my shop and I hope you will enjoy them too! Thanks, Holly

About

Creating unique and cost effective diaper options for your little ones!

I have been sewing for approximately 30 years and although I have often used my skills to create gifts for others, I have never wanted to use them to make money, and I still don't! I just love sewing diapers and creating something special for others!

When I was pregnant with my second child I knew I wanted to cloth diaper to try to prevent thousands of diapers ending up in the local landfill. I experimented a fair amount purchasing finished diapers mostly from the big, brand names, but one day I found a local lady who was trying to make a go of a diaper service in our area and she was also selling some of the diapers she had purchased from someone else. They were PUL outer, flannel inner and were very poorly made, with the seams falling apart. I offered to fix them for her, but she had way too many for a Mom with two small children. But in trying to help her I discovered that cloth diapers were so easy to make. I purchased a few diaper cuts from the only Canadian online fabric company and I was hooked. I quickly built up my personal stash and one day my husband asked me "how many does he need anyway?" That got me thinking that maybe I should try to sell them so I could make some more. That was three years ago.

I struggled a fair bit with what to call my little Etsy 'company', but when the name 'Maritime Mama' came to me I knew it was the right name for me. I am so proud to be a Maritimer and even more so, a Mom!

I knew that I liked the fit of the Sprout Snap diaper and so once I got approved by the owner, Valorie, I used it to create my first diaper listing. I was so excited when it sold, and I get just as excited six years later with every diaper I sell.

I'm not able to make a ton of diapers to sell, but I have enjoyed making each and every one. I try to offer high quality service, and ship the next business day almost every time. I have received some wonderful feedback, and I invite you to take a look to see for yourself. Maybe I can create something just for you.

Thanks for taking the time to read about me and my little Etsy shop!

Hi there. My name is Holly and I live in a small community in Nova Scotia. I started looking into cloth diapering when pregnant with our second child. I just couldn't stand the idea of 2+ years worth of diapers sitting in our local dump, and thought a lot about what kind of Earth I would be leaving my children. I knew I loved the idea of one size pocket diapers, but was weary of the cost, not knowing whether I would truly use them or not. So I purchased a box of prefold cloth diapers with covers and used them until he outgrew them at a few months old. By then I was hooked and I hit the internet to find any deal I could on pocket diapers. It wasn't until I offered to help a local lady fix some diapers someone made for her that I realized how easy they are to make. I had been sewing for approximately 24 years at that point, and figured I would give it a try. Well, I was hooked once again. I've not stopped buying fabric and sewing diapers ever since. I find it very relaxing and calming, which combats my otherwise stressful day job as a Child Welfare Supervisor. So even though I still have to sew at my kitchen table, I still love to get my sewing machine out every chance I get and make up a few more, hoping that someone will love them as much as I loved making them.

Payment
I accept PayPal and credit card payments only, unless you are local to Nova Scotia and we can meet in person. If so, I will of course accept cash! At this time, all my featured items are in stock and can therefore ship within 48 (and most times 24) hours of payment having been received.
Shipping
I unfortunately have to rely upon Canada Post for shipping which is costly and can be slow as well. Expect 1-3 weeks in shipping time. Shipping costs were my determining factor in not providing an insert with every diaper. It costs an additional $2 to ship with an insert in the package.
Refunds and Exchanges
I am open to discussing any dissatisfaction you may have with a Maritime Mama diaper. Please convo me with any questions and/or difficulties.
Additional policies and FAQs
I would love to create a custom piece for your little one (or 2?). Just send me a message and we'll go from there.

I am a Licensed Sprout Snap & Happy Snap seamstress. I have altered the pattern of the Sprout Snap slightly to widen the crotch area to make it easier to stuff and to allow for more absorbency to be added for night time use. Thanks Valorie & Melanie!
