Marlena worked with me every step of the way in designing this scarf. She responded promptly and the scarf exceeded all expectations. The teacher loved the scarf as did all the parents. It was a huge huge hit. I will be ordering more from Marlena more in the future.

Marlena made two custom scarves for me using pictures I gave her. They came out even better than I expected. My wife loved them for our 12 year (silk) anniversary. I would definitely recommend. Thanks Marlena!

About

About Our Process

Hello, Thank you for visiting my shop, Designer Scarves by Marlena aka www.etsy.com/shop/MarlenasArtSilks

HOW I WORK:
This will give you a general idea of how I work and what to expect as we create your custom made silk scarf,

To start, select the scarf sample in my shop that resembles what you desire your scarf to be like in size and number of photos and or price. Click on the item and message me. Then attach your photos.

For multiple files or for high resolution tiff files, please send through, www.wetransfer.com. to info [!at] designerscarvesbymarlena.com

After you have chosen the size of scarf you want and have uploaded your files I will look at your photos so make sure they will be printable. Then I will give you a ballpark price of the scarf and the layout. I charge $1.00 per minute for layout and design service, plus the scarf price.

At this time I will ask for payment if we are using your layout or partial payment if I am creating your layout. Files that you have created, or already laid out will incur no computer time, therefore, will require no proofing.

A simple layout is created with your photos within a few hours then I send you a first soft proof through Etsy messaging.

If you have changes on the work done let me know and I will make changes and send you another soft proof along with the time spent on the layout to date.

A complete layout may take a few hours of a few days, depending on how complex the layout is aod how many photo you have. I can give you a ballpark price. The actual layout price may be more or less than the estimate.

After you are happy with the final proofing of my layout, I will set up your item in my shop again so you can make the final payment.

I charge $1.00 per minute on layout, plus the scarf price.

If I start on your scarf design and send you proofs if for any reason you decide not go further on ordering your scarf or scarves, layout or design time is still due. We will set up a product page where you can pay the bill.
State of Florida orders pay State Sales Tax, depending on the county.

Production time is one to 2 weeks before shipping.
Looking forward to working with you in creating your one of a kind silk scarf.

Thank you!

ABOUT OUR PROCESS:
Our silk printing process is a laborious one. The process is an art that take lots of practice to get it just right. After printing, our scarves are steamed for 3 hours to set the inks.
Designer Scarves by Marlena uses, ecology friendly, state of the art, extreme color inks, made in the USA. These are the exact same dyes designers like Calvin Kline in NY are using.

Our proprietary process gives us vibrant colors which show through on the reverse from 90% to 98% depending on the run of silk we are using. The process is not perfect because of many factors. The digital coating may vary from silk batch to batch. Silk has flaws that are sometimes hard to avoid. Sometimes there may be a very small ink drop on the print which is considered part of the art. With all of this we have proven to be the best in the industry with many excellent reviews, pleasing people around the world.

My biggest joy is when clients see their photos or art on a scarf. I receive many phone call with praises.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________More about the artist, Marlena
"Little did I know that when in high school my first prom dress was made of a beautiful blue silk shantung would I be making scarves of the pure silk 40 years later and with my artist husband, Robbie Burger.

It was my husband’s idea when we had our wide format printing business in College Park, FL. Robbie wanted to try printing on a polyester fabric. The piece came out beautifully. We still have the original piece we printed way back then.

So we started our search for the perfect printable silk. 6 years later after testing many types of silk, we found the perfect silk habotai. The silk took color well and the image showed well on the reverse. We were off and running. Then in 2007 Florida was hit by 3 hurricanes that came inland. All business were at a standstill for 3 months while repairs were made. By then our little business had suffered financially and we could not afford to keep our shop.

The only option was to move into our home and set up business using the internet. We were so low on money that the only thing I could think of to do was to bury myself in marketing through the internet. For 3 years we plugged away with marketing ourselves through social networks. Finally orders through PayPal started to come through.

The local newspaper discovered us and featured Designer Scarves by Marlena in a two page photo spread in the style section. that Wednesday evening and next morning, a week before Thanksgiving, the phone started to ring with folks ordering. We were on the right track, the rest is history!

Going on our 10th year in the industry. We have made lots of people happy with unique gifts of silk with their photos and art.
