Perfect irregularity
For a while, through these years, I didn't know what to answer to the questions “How did you start sewing? How did you learn it?”. Now I just think it's something genetic: among my relatives there were many sculptors, goldsmiths, tailors, wood carvers. I am a self-educated crafter so I think everything comes out from this story and I belong to it.
My path has always been irregular, both in school and work: I've studied music in my teens, sociology at high school, literature at university and afterwards pattern design; in the meanwhile I have been doing every kind of jobs, and crafting in my free time.
For a while I've been thinking that my chaotic education was my Achille's heel, that I should have focused on just one field, but after a period of hesitation I discovered that this heterogeneous mix of knowledge and skills was extremely useful. This irregularity, connected with my inclination to learn and teach myself, became the strong point of my project. I knew what I wanted to be in life, I probably always knew it. I just had to figure out what it was exactly: an indipendent designer and crafter. I put all my efforts, background and experience in what I love the most, creating bags and clothes and it has been the best choice of my life, it gave me the possibility to work with so many interesting people, realizing solutions for the most unusual purposes. I've been working on my personal project -MartenLab- and at the same time in the world of art, theater, web series and it's great because being in close contact with a creative environment leads to new inspirations.
I love my job because it requires creativity and stimulates it at the same time, so I feel like I'm evolving every day, every time I experiment something.
