About

Martin Thaller Designs: Modern Design, Traditional Techniques

Every one of my products are 100% handmade in America.

Martin Thaller is a self taught furniture maker from the mountains of Appalachia. He specializes in custom & original furniture design, as well as finding inspiration in ‘art deco’ style furniture. His designs have been described as graceful & curving, artistic yet understated, and well balanced; with frequent use of ‘negative space’ as a design element. As well as designing, he handcrafts each piece with the utmost care, meticulous attention to construction details, and the highest quality materials.

Martin’s shop is located between the deer and the waterfall, on most days in the mossy forest near Bat Cave, North Carolina. Close to the very scenic Chimney Rock & Lake Lure, the ruggedly beautiful terrain & mountains creates an inspirational setting to craft handmade furniture.

Some of my ETSY feedback:

"The box is beautifully crafted and simply gorgeous! I bought it for my 12 yr old son to use as his money box. I wanted a box that will stand the test of time and I believe this is it. The design is simple and elegant and the workmanship superb. Thank you for the fast shipping."

"I love the idea of being able to have the exact size PLUS first-rate design and workmanship in each of the four tables we need."

"Martin, I received the cherry table today and want you to know it arrived safely. It is absolutely gorgeous! Your work is wonderful and I am so happy with the piece! Thank you so much for working with me to create exactly what I needed and taking the time to pack it so carefully. I truly appreciate all of your effort and woodworking skills. I love the combined cherry and walnut woods which makes it so unique. Thank you so much! If I ever need a wood piece in the future I will be contacting you! "

"The table is gorgeous! The craftsmanship is superb and the wood is of highest quality. It was a pleasure working with Martin, who got every detail right and obviously cares deeply about his work. The table was carefully crated and shipped safely across the country. Highly recommended!"

"My daughter and son gave me a handmade checker board and matching pieces. They told me that you were the craftsman that made this set, well, it is beautiful; a treasure! I thanked both of them and now I am thanking you. I appreciate the time and effort you put into creating this and I know it was a lot! I will treasure it always … thanks again!"

Additional policies and FAQs
Thanks for your interest in my furniture.

My furniture is individually handmade utilizing natural hardwoods. These are 'one of a kind' creations and not factory manufactured or veneered in any way. The nature of handmade craftsmanship makes it quite difficult to make identical items, so some variation in color and appearance are natural.

My photos always reflect the true product, but you should expect slight variations from sample photo and product received. There may be natural variations that are not blemishes and should not be misconstrued as flaws. These are what make each piece of a handmade product charming and unique.

Available Items:
Available pieces are the exact item in the photos.

'Made To Order':
'Made To Order' Items are pieces that made for you once the order is placed. The images on the listing are examples of the design, and I will usually have some wood options in the drop down menu, even though you may not see that combination in the photos. If you are ordering a "made to order" item, please realize that the item you receive will be similar in appearance but not identical to photographs of previously made items.

'Custom' Orders:
Have something in mind that you don't see in my shop?
Being both the designer & craftsman, I can create something slightly similar, or radically diffrent. If you need an item of a specific size, custom design, or want different woods or accents, just let me know and I will be happy to create it for you. I enjoy a challenge!

Just send me a custom item request, and we can work on your vision!
