About

Must-Have Curated Collectibles

Nature, with its beautiful organic forms and shapes seems magical and even supernatural to me. For more than thirty-five years, it’s guided my vision as a successful jewelry designer, entrepreneur and collector of vintage jewelry, pottery and other art objects. I have a special affinity for the work of the Mexican Silver Renaissance, the era of Spratling, Pineda, Castillo, Margot Van Voorhies and Aguilar.

I’m excited to now be able to share these wonderful pieces of vintage jewelry and other collectibles that I have collected over the years. Many of the pieces have been near and dear to me. Whether you simply browse and mark your favorites for your own inspiration, or find something fabulous that you must have, thank you for visiting my shop!

Here’s how I got started...

In the mid 70’s, I began my career working for a top fashion jewelry manufacturer in Los Angeles where I worked up the ranks from showroom sales at the L.A. Apparel Mart, to Production Manager/Designer at their Santa Monica factory, to eventually, Head Designer.

In 1979, I started my own wholesale jewelry business. The business, Mary B Hetz Jewelry, really took off when I came up with the idea of wrapping tiny seed beads, strung with wire in a pattern, around a cut out leather shape to form a snake belt. It was an instant hit in my New York showroom! I went on to create necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pins and hair accessories using this same medium. My menagerie of ‘wearable art’ beaded animal belts grew, and were featured not only in stores such as Neiman Marcus (retailing from $450 to $750 for a beaded belt), but were also featured in many art galleries and museums, including the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum and The American Craft Museum in New York. My beaded belts were hand signed “Mary B Hetz.” You may find some of my, now ‘vintage’, beaded animal belts and other creations selling on Etsy, eBay, and other collectibles websites.

Beginning in the late eighties, I produced a separate collection of sterling silver and 18k gold vermeil jewelry which was also very popular and sold to high-end specialty stores and boutiques across the country and in Europe.

Throughout my career, my jewelry and belts have been worn by movie stars and top models like Kate Moss and have been featured on covers of fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Vogue in the U.S. and Europe. Here’s a link to give you an idea… http://www.marybhetz.com/press.html

Beginning in the early nineties, my career evolved again. While my jewelry business was still in full swing, my sister and I started a new venture, Crafty Productions, which capitalizing on the popularity of my beaded jewelry. We sold “Mary B Hetz beaded jewelry kits” to major craft retailers such as Michael’s, JoAnn’s Fabrics, and Hobby Lobby. It evolved into all types of kits and craft products, not just jewelry kits. By 1995, Crafty Productions had become so successful that, in order to keep up with the demands on my time, I closed my jewelry business and made the switch to the craft industry. I sold my shares in ‘Crafty’ in 2013 and retired, well, sort of…here I go again on Etsy!
