This quilt is beautiful, balanced, bright, expressive, poignant and cherished! Stunning! I had been searching for a quilt that is not (no shade) a painted or printed bedspread or a haphazard patchwork. I wanted something to bring that challenge to our notions of art, exactly as in the story Everyday Use by Alice Walker. Mary is the truth. Mary's quilt brings history into your hands. It is an instant vintage artifact, and the first instruction for proper preservation it is to wash it. I have a private gallery in my home, where I sit amidst my modest collection, wrapped in Mary's quilt, immersed in culture.
Sew many quilts, Sew little time...
Hi, my name is Mary and I am the force behind Mary Go Round Quilts. I’m a legal secretary by day and a single mompreneur by night. My first Etsy shop, RoselynnDesigns was opened in 2009 and featured wire wrapped jewelry. After several years, I decided to close that shop.
I have always been a creative person. My mother taught me and my sisters to sew. I have been sewing since I was around 12 years old. Sewing clothing was my first love, and I continue to sew clothes for myself today. I discovered quilting in 1995. I bought a Teach Yourself to Quilt book, and the rest is history. I loved quilting from the start. I get excited to start a new quilt, and can’t wait to see the finished product. It’s nice to stand back, admire your work, and say “I did that.”
I have made quilts for my family members, donated quilts to fundraisers, and I give them away as gifts. I’ve made a lot of quilts over the years that just got bagged up and stored away – thinking I would sell them at craft fairs, but that didn’t happen. I have chosen to spread the Etsy love and open Mary Go Round Quilts. My shop features baby blankets or throws, but I will also include some larger quilts. And don’t be surprised if you see pillows and home décor items.
I am a big fan of the “scrappy” quilt because I like a kaleidoscope of colors. I am also a big fan of muslin. I use muslin on my quilt tops, and I use it for backing. Muslin adds a vintage quality to the quilt and I like the way it crinkles after you wash it. I piece all the quilts on my regular ‘ole Brother sewing machine, and quilt the tops with my Queen Quilter 18 long arm machine. Best invention ever!
A few of my other hobbies/interests include crocheting, making jewelry, baking, reading, cooking and dancing.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
I have been sewing for a long time. My first love was sewing clothes. For years, I would offer up my sewing services if someone was getting married, or just need a special occasion dress. Quilting just came naturally after sewing clothes.

Frequently asked questions
I do not pre-wash my fabric before I make the quilts. I suggest washing my quilts in cool water and hang dry or tumble low in dryer. This will prevent any colors from bleeding.
