Capturing the beauty of nature with watercolor and wool.

“Deep in their roots, all flowers keep the light"~Theodore Roethke

Welcome! I am a painter, fiber artist, art therapist and avid gardener who resides in the beautiful state of Maine. Like the local landscapes, flora and fauna that inspire me, it is my hope that my art carries an abiding sense of wonder and captures the essence of the natural world and all its radiance. I believe that beauty restores us and find great joy in bringing a little beauty to others through my work.

Background~

My connection to nature began as a young child in my native Colorado, tending to my mother’s gardens and hiking among the streams, aspen forests, and wildflowers of the Rocky Mountains. After earning degrees in fine art and art therapy I worked as a registered art therapist, using the healing qualities of art and creative writing to help others.

While working with individuals struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder in the early 1990s, I used my own art as a respite after coming home from work, specifically, using watercolors to recreate the elegance and grace of blooming flowers. This focus on beauty and light offered restoration after long days spent processing intense pain and grief.

I found that my work resonated with others and I gained a following of collectors who commissioned my floral paintings. Inspired to explore my art in new mediums over the years, I studied the traditional craft of rug-hooking as well as needle felting and began to recreate my watercolor paintings with wool. These too garnered a following of clients throughout the United States and abroad.

I appreciate all of the collectors of my work very much. My work is also featured at several organizations including the Mayora Rosenberg Women’s Health Center at the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago.

My flower paintings are also a part of a wonderful collaboration with Lisanne Miller and her renowned rug hooking store, W. Cushing and Company. She has created an exclusive line of rug-hooking kits based on my flower paintings. The Spring 2015 issue of Rug Hooking Magazine featured a detailed article on my artwork, creative process, and history entitled “Painting with Watercolors, Painting with Wool.”

I live with my husband, two sons and sweet english setter, Jasper in the coastal town of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I feel fortunate to have an enclosed porch studio filled with windows that look out over my gardens. Just as many generations of artists before me, I find continual inspiration from the breathtaking land and seascapes that surround me.
