About

From photos to patterns.....

I began taking photographs a few years ago when I inherited my husband's Canon Rebel camera. Mind you, I don't know a thing about taking photos, except when it looks like a great shot take it. But after a while I began to really enjoy the hobby. Since we love traveling - well I began to take more and more photos of areas we visited. To be able to capture on camera the awesome places we were visiting. I began to look for lighthouses, gardens and places where you can photograph nature at it's finest. The Oregon coast is our favorite because it has a little bit of everything - from museums, the ocean to lighthouses all along the way.

So then I began to sell my prints online for a little extra money at FineArtAmerica. It's a great place to show off your photography and it's very reasonable too.

In the meantime, I also love making and creating patterns, such as knitting or crocheting, so I had an idea to take one of my photographs and create a cross stitch pattern. I also enjoy painting and woodworking and will also add some of my beautiful plaques and wooden crosses to my shop as I complete them, so be on the lookout for those as well.

To share a little bit of how my patterns are created first, it begins with a high resolution photo for the pattern, then you create your pattern - I now use PC Stitch, which I totally love. Make sure your pattern has the right colors because sometimes the program can choose a color that isn't quiet right. Then you can view your pattern, check the number of colors you will need, along with other fine details that you can possibly think of to make sure it looks just like you want it to. Then just print your pattern and begin stitching. I use 14 count aida cloth for all my projects because this way the pattern covers the entire fabric. It's like a finished needlepoint look which I really enjoy. But, this is a personal preference you are the ultimate judge of how you want your finished project to look like.

I then take the project and mount it to a foam board. I have a "hot press" which does a very nice job and secures any wrinkle, so the project will be completely pressed onto the board before I mat and frame it.

Then I add a mat and frame that will compliment my finished artwork.

This first Luscious Tulip cross stitch project is sitting at a local cross stitch shop in Anacortes where they sell my patterns. I've also completed, Admiralty Head, Haystack Rock, Patience, Tulip Trio, Majestic Inn and Iris Brand labels. So my goal is to cross stitch at least one pattern every month, I am so behind so that they can display them at the shop.

I have a long way to go to get all my patterns cross stitched, but it's a journey that I know I will truly enjoy.

New projects that I will begin adding to my shop are the beautiful "Anacortes Vintage Label Series" which includes some very old vintage salmon labels they used in earlier times - they are beautiful!
