Welcome to Studio Portmanteau! We are a stationery brand happily based out of a bright, cheerful studio space in a historic building in the heart of downtown Grants Pass, Oregon. Each product sold in the shop is a one-of-a-kind creation dreamed up & brought to life by our team in the Pacific Northwest. Our studio is rooted in, trained on, inspired by, & continues to work with traditional letterpress, bookbinding, & embossing methods. Our own design work is inspired by a passion for the simple things in life - stargazing, beachcombing, gardening, reading, cooking, the great outdoors - plus a fascination with vintage things and an obsession with all things golden. We have built our brand by partnering with small-scale artisans and manufacturers based in the US. Every material we work with is carefully sourced from and designed with experienced vendors and skilled artisans to be high-quality, durable, and timeless, be it paper, linen, leather, or wood. All orders are shipped out of our studio in Grants Pass, Oregon, USA. When you purchase one of our goods, you are acquiring a carefully crafted, bespoke item that was sent out with tradition, love, and care by the Studio Portmanteau team in Grants Pass, Oregon. So where did the shop name come from? A portmanteau is an old French word for a box or suitcase that opens into two equal parts (much like our vintage-inspired matchboxes, which were our first product back in 2013). The shop logo is derived from an antique lock on an old leather suitcase. And how in the world do you pronounce portmanteau? It rhymes with studio (port-man-toe). :)
