Maureen Duffy Jewelry is for those who love urban patterns, designs, and textures!
Before starting my own jewelry line I was making metal sculptures that were urban inspired. After finishing graduate school in 2007 the economy went into a recession and I had to find away to use my skills of working in metal in a more practical but just as gratifying way. I began to look at photos that I had compiled over the years of the city and figure out what common patterns of imagery I was most attracted to. That is when the birth of the Abandoned Bicycle series occured.
Growing up I was raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia but visited the city often. I knew from a very early age that I wanted to live and and raise a family in the city. I dreamed of having a swanky apartment that overlooked city hall but now comfortably live in a family neighborhood of South Philadelphia where the history and culture is still very much alive. No day is ever the same in the city, the people, art, and the hustle and bustle always bring something new and exciting.
I like technology but relish in the technique of the past. Every piece is meticulously hand cut and formed with love for the material and process. I love clean design that still has a edge of handmade quality. I take great pride in being a jeweler and believe that a true jeweler is someone that is informed and has an understanding of the history of jewelry. I appreciate the people who buy and love my work and enjoy seeing each item go into the hands of someone who loves wearing it just as much as I did making the piece.
