I bought these as a gift for my daughter in law. My wife loves the ones I got for us.

Excited about our new handwoven kitchen gift sets which include one of our gripper potholders along with one of our coordinating kitchen towels. We are offering this set in 11 different patterns-all handmade in Guatemala.

About

Mayamam Weavers

Mayamam Weavers creates handwoven home goods and accessories for modern living, inspired by the rich colors and patterns and tradidtional weaving techniques of the Maya culture. As well as beautiful, our products are soft 100% cotton, and durable enough for everyday use.

We began in 2008 as a cooperative of women in Cajolá, a Maya town in the western highlands of Guatemala. To overcome poverty, the women came together to explore ways to create jobs within their community, rather than migrate to the U.S. and separate their families. Since then, the cooperative has grown to 20 weavers and seamstresses, all earning fair trade wages while learning the skills to run a business. It also provides on-site childcare and adult literacy classes for the community.

We are proud to offer products that make a difference in the lives of women, and provide a better future for their children.

Welcome to MayaMam’s shop! All of our products are made by hand in Cajola, a Maya town in the western highlands of Guatemala. We have tried to design contemporary products using the designs and techniques of our ancestors. We would like to share with you some of the wisdom of our ancestors, and so we have woven or embroidered traditional symbols into our products. A brief explanation of the meaning of the symbols accompanies each product. Some of our products are woven on the backstrap loom, the traditional loom of the Maya people, and some are woven on foot looms. We use sewing machines to construct the products, and all the embroidery is done by hand.
