About

I opened my shop because I am a huge fan of Etsy makers and feel at home showing and selling my work alongside so many distinctive artists.

As a child I daydreamed about being lost in a wilderness and living in a self made shell grotto. My early yearnings grew into a passion for creating handmade art from my immediate surroundings. I select traditional craft materials as well as found objects for my work. I work in a painterly style; I have always admired folk artists and sculptures and objects made by painters. my work incorporates mass market souvenirs and kitschy bric a brac reinvented as one of a kind affordable art pieces.
My recent artworks are part of a ongoing project to make a body of work sympathetic to my aspiration to build an virtual artist garden/ environment. I try not to edit my work to remove my naive enthusiasm and rough edges. It's very difficult to suppress self awareness, but I want my virtual garden project to flourish with a spontaneous spirit of making treasures out of materials which could be seen as junk, to celebrate a primal instinct to produce art.

I am inspired by folk art traditions because using established forms of creating art far removed from my own cultural background somehow enables me to view my own environment with a new found clarity. I am filled with wonder by the work of outsider and folk artists, both in terms of imagery and how ordinary materials are selected and reformed into a new vocabulary. My desire to ultimately build an artist's garden is driven by my daydream world, and the need to make sense of the real world I live in. My latest work recycles manufactured items into crafts; not to be ironic but to truly reflect my world, Which is an environment full of stuff without any intrinsic value. I have no specific heritage to draw on or desire to be an arbiter of taste or worth.
