Lovingly handmade silver, enamel and glass
Even at school I used to make jewellery as presents for my friends but it wasn't until 2005 that I started to work in silver and semi-precious stones.
Then I discovered chainmaille and was immediately fascinated by the many weave variations and their history. In 2010 I registered with the London Assay Office and just a year later was given an opportunity to start my own business (meadmoon.com) making sterling silver jewellery, specialising in chainmaille and fine silver leaves made from real leaves.
More recently I have diversified into making fused glass and enamelled items. Inspiration for these comes from the Lake District, trees and flowers and some of my work incorporates Glow Glass.
My training in silversmithing is with Janet Richardson and I learned enamelling from Jane Tadrist and fused glass techniques at Warm Glass.
The name "Mead Moon" is one of the many names given to the full moon in my birth month of June. It refers to bees collecting pollen from flowers in Summer to make honey.
Most of my chainmaille jewellery is made from Sterling Silver, but I also make maille using other metals such as titanium, niobium, copper, stainless steel and aluminium.
Every piece is lovingly handcrafted one ring at a time; larger and more intricate pieces can take several days to make.
All items containing Sterling Silver which weighs more than 7.78 grams are hallmarked by the London Assay Office, where my sponsor's mark is registered.
Commissions are welcomed. Please contact me if you would like something which is not in stock or wish to have an individual piece designed just for you, or even if you simply have questions about any aspect of my work.
I have been making jewellery as presents for several years and started my own business in 2011 after working in IT for 39 years. My training in silversmithing is from Janet Richardson and I have also been on enamelling and glasswork courses.
