About

Variety is an Art - Obsessive Creative Multitasker and Archaeologist in Training

I wear many hats, and sometimes I make them too.

I'm a mum, a visual artist, a professional knitter and a full time archaeology student.

I found Etsy accidently one day while searching for some obscure component for a piece of wearable art I was making for a local Carnivale and fell in love with you all.

The creative community here is totally awesome.

I love it here so much that I also have another store that I share with my sister called DCI Vintage. Here we sell my hand-knitted and hand-stitched vintage style clothing, vintage sewing and knitting patterns, vintage style kids clothing and some reclaimed vintage artefacts.

I've been a full time visual artist since 2005, a professional knitter (making samples for designers, yarn stores and print publications) for longer than that and recently enrolled as a full time archaeology student. On top of all that I'm mum of five beautiful humans and a not-so-closet sci-fi and fantasy nutter. If you searched my favourites on this site, you'd find they're full of DR Who and sci-fi geekery, along with an eclectic mix of original art and craft supplies.

I'm easily bored and like to be 'busy' all the time. I'm one of those awful people who can't sit through a television program or movie without having something else to do as well (I've been known to take my knitting into the movie theatre). I must have driven my parents mad as a kid, and am sure my partner must be the World's Most Tolerant Man (I wonder if there's an award for that?). I jokingly tell people I suffer from OCD (Obsessive Creative Disorder) but I suspect it's not actually too far off the truth... maybe I should start a support group? Because I always need another project!

I wear many hats (and sometimes I knit them too). Mum, artist, archaeology student, professional knitter. I love all things vintage, colourful, sci-fi, fantasy or just plain arty & weird. I love a good "Bum" joke & have a Tardis for my doormat.
