I just want a workshop, damn ...
Mechatronische Kunst
How it all began:
I'll try to be brief. In high school, the art lessons almost always bored me, because the art lessons are designed as follows: Artist XY did this and that, so and so years ago. Show me (the teacher) how "creative" you are and do this and that, so and so, JUST like XY did years ago. And that's called creative art lessons. That went on for my entire school years, until a fateful day when my last art teacher during the Abi period suggested the following as the last topic: "Do what you want".
After some thought, I went to my art teacher and said, "I'm making a metal bird." No idea how I came up with it, but it is probably the right choice, otherwise we would not be here today.
After a lot of trying and even more failures, I put a metal bird in front of my art teacher after eight weeks and got a one plus for it. By the way, this was the first one plus in my entire school days and the only one plus on my high school diploma, so this was already a pretty important event for me.
After school, I understandably toyed with the idea of expanding my newfound talent. After my friends talked to me and advised me to do just that (and still support me to this day), I upgraded my arsenal of tools and got to work...
I would now like to write something like: "And the rest is history", but I had a big problem from the beginning that I have not been solved until today. I can't find a workshop. Either the rent is priceless or the location is not suitable to make unrestricted noise. I have been pursuing this passion for 6 years now, could not solve this banal problem. I have worked in the most unsuitable places, because on the one hand I have found a very important outlet in my work and on the other hand I would very much like to become financially independent through it.
Here's a little insight into what places I've worked in so far.
First of all, in our former ground floor apartment, I put my old desk in the garden and worked there with gas. And yes, as you can imagine, our neighbors loved me very much. Not. And since Germany is known for the fact that the sun is always shining, the weather was of course no problem.
Then, after a few years, we moved into a condominium on the 3rd floor, so no more garden. Then it occurred to me that my grandmother, who also lives in an apartment, has an attic that can be shared, but no one has ever done so. The only problem was that the door lock was so rusted that you could no longer lock the door. Long story short: I broke the lock and inserted a new one. When the landlord found out after a year and a half, he was actually very nice and kindly asked me to clear the attic (and this time it's not meant sarcastically, he was really friendly).
Then again a few years of workshoplessness passed and I had again the strong desire to make something. Out of sheer desperation and dissatisfaction, I simply decided to build a small mini workshop on our balcony. I didn't ask the property management for permission, as I learned after all this time that it's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.
At the moment this is the state of affairs and I am still looking for a nice workshop where I can let off steam and exploit my entire creative potential. So far, it has been more like working with both hands on my back and on one leg. Which does not mean that what I have created so far is not impressive. It just took longer than it would have taken with a workshop.
So much for "I try to be brief" :)
