I got one of these for my sister after seeing Megan's youtube beginner tutorial. She made it look so fun and easy that anyone could do this. Now I have to get one of my own! Thank you!

About

Can't Stop Me Now!

My name is Megan. I live in El Dorado County, CA, and have made my home here for nearly my entire life. By day, I am an instructor and general retailer at a local craft store. By night - and all other spare moments - I create. Whether it's drawing, painting, spinning yarn, crocheting, or dyeing wool, I am creating something or thinking of new ways to push my boundaries.

I grew up in Cameron Park, California and am one of the Ponderosa alumni. Every step of the way, from my first day in school to the last, I was in an art class. Art has always been part of my life. Even when my path in the art field was faced with maximum criticism, I never considered straying. I seldom feel better than when I am creating something.

I began on Etsy as a buyer. I didn't consider selling anything I created until somewhere around 2011, when I took my first official commission. I was going through some tough emotional times - keeping busy and making beautiful things made me feel better. I did a lot of that. So much, in fact, that I had accumulated quite a stash of scarves in all different color combos and textures. After a loved one recommended I put my Etsy account to other uses, I decided it was time to really set up shop.

I have been doing that ever since, but as I have progressed - both as a business woman and as an artist - crochet was no longer enough.

It's my nature to figure out how things work. As I branched out from the usual manufactured yarn brands to unique and handmade, I felt the need to learn exactly how it's done. What's it like going from sheep to hook? How do you sheer a sheep? How do you prepare the fleece for spinning? How to you spin yarn? How do you dye it? I started asking myself all of these questions and spent several months intensely studying and accumulating the required tools and to dye and spin yarn, applying for my business license and the proper permits, and setting up wholesale accounts.

I finally reopened this shop as more than just crochet. I will still have that, of course, but I will also be carrying yarn hand spun and dyed by me, spindles (to spread the joy of hand spinning), artwork (duh), and - in the future - traditional art supplies. I am looking forward to learning how to make things like oil pastels and watercolors. I am also planning on making my own crochet hooks and knitting needles.

Ever since my adventure into the fiber art world started, I have made so many amazing friends! I've met some remarkably hard working people, farmers who are completely dedicated to their work, and artists who have such a deep love for their craft.

I am planning on opening up a physical storefront in the future (not sure where I will end up, yet), but that is a ways away. Until then, I look forward to seeing you at my craft booth! I keep a schedule using Etsy Local and on my Facebook page, which you will find on the right side of this page!

I hope you enjoy browsing my wares. :)
