About

Pet portraits that celebrate the inner life of animals.

Animals have always been my favorite artistic subject. I've always loved celebrating their beauty, intelligence, emotional lives and unique idiosyncrasies through art. In 2009, I got my first pet portrait commission … and the commissions never stopped coming after that. I currently work from my home studio in lovely Burlington, VT.

Here, you can browse some of my animal portraits, commission a portrait of your best furry friend, order prints of your favorite pieces, or purchase a couple of original works I still have available. All works are done from photographs in soft pastel, acrylic or pencil.

Thanks for stopping by!

Best,
Megan

HOW IT WORKS: Send me your favorite photo(s) of your best furry friend and I will work from the photograph. A high-quality photo ensures the most realistic portrait. Poor quality cell phone photos are not acceptable. I can include multiple animals in your portrait even if you don't have a photo of them together. I am happy to illustrate any kind of animal under the sun, and can include a person in the portrait if you'd like.

PRICING: For soft pastel and acrylic portraits, I charge $50/hour, and the average piece (one animal, ~225 square inches) takes me 30-40 hours to complete. I will determine the price for your portrait based on the size and complexity of your composition (how long it's likely to take me). If the portrait takes less time than estimated, the price will go down accordingly. If it takes longer, the original price quoted will not change.

For pencil (grayscale) portraits, I charge $30/hour. The average piece (~100 square inches) takes me about 10 hours to complete.

MEDIUM: Choose from soft pastel, acrylic paint or pencil.

TIMELINE: Art is not my full-time job. The average piece (~225 square inches) takes me 2 months to complete. If I'm currently working on another commission, the start time for your piece will be delayed. When possible, I will do my absolute best to hit your deadline of a birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc.--but the more lead time you give me, the better.

SHIPPING: I do not "fix" (spray with a fixative) my soft pastel pieces because that muddies and dulls the colors. Therefore, having me frame the piece for you before shipping it is the safest bet. However, that will add 2 weeks and the cost of framing to your quote. I take extreme care in shipping all pieces whether framed or unframed so your piece arrives in perfect condition.
