5 out of 5 starsWhen my paintings arrived, I almost fainted! The colors are so beautiful, so perfect. Both paintings have a similar motion to them and work together so well. The sun from my sunroof is just over them, and the light brings them to life.

5 out of 5 starsI just opened the painting and it seriously is more beautiful than I could have imagined! My fiancé and I love it so much! Seriously, I would have paid like $250-$ 300 easily for this. The quality is absolutely incredible, the colors are so vibrant...pictures just don't do it justice. I will share another photo once we find the perfect spot to hang it.
About MegsAbstractArt
Original Abstract Metallic Paintings Inspired by the Sea
Welcome to Abstract Metallic by Megan Willis Art! I am an abstract artist living and working in Sacramento, California. After selling my art in large galleries in Hawaii and California for many years, I decided to open my own online gallery in order to work directly with my collectors. Since 2017, I have sold my art online to collectors around the world.
My luminous paintings are inspired by the intricacies of the sea and its inhabitants, its tranquility and power, and are an exploration of the sea’s chromatophoric creatures—I use fluid and shiny materials such as acrylic enamel, mica, and metal flakes to evoke a sense of magic and mystery.
My love of the sea grew from my childhood summers spent exploring the waters of the Hawaiian Islands, a connection that has only strengthened through my global scuba diving adventures.
My materials exist in the most advanced automotive paint technology. I utilize heat, water, and air pressure to create depth, movement, and texture that evoke natural ocean phenomena.

Frequently asked questions
What is your paint medium?
Acrylic enamel is a high tech material used on modern cars - it is extremely durable and protects against UV light and dust. The additional materials are ground mica, metals, and natural elements which import a beautiful shine and translucence to each piece, with no two paintings alike. This is what makes my art so luminous - the polished metal particles and ceramic crystals in the paint reflect and refract light. This gives my paintings not just a sparkle, but also deep colors that vary depending on how you look at them for brilliant effects.
What other materials do you use?
CANVAS - I use hand-woven, 100% cotton canvases coated with three layers of professional-grade, acid-free gesso. The canvas is carefully sanded between primer coats for a smooth, luxurious surface with just the right tooth.
STRETCHER BARS - The primed canvas fabric is evenly stretched around solid wood stretcher bars, which are kiln-dried for warp-resistance and long-term stability.
PAINT & VARNISH - I spray many layers of a clear coat on each painting's surface to protect the paint from UV light and dust. The paint is sealed beneath these layers. I also carefully sand the painting between the layers of clear coat to create extra shine.
What other artists work in this medium?
To date, I have not found any other artist working with acrylic enamel as a medium using my same techniques, nor has any artist been able to copy my unique style of painting. I have only discovered one other artist who uses a similar medium (aerospace paint) and style who sells originals for thousands of dollars in galleries.
What does "stretched" canvas mean?
Stretched canvas means that the painting comes with 1.5 inch thick wooden stretcher bars that have been attached against the back of the painting. This simply means that you are able to hang my painting on a wall once received (hanging wire is already installed on the back).
It is not possible for my paintings to be either removed from the stretcher bars to be rolled, or for me to paint on "unstretched" canvas to be rolled for later stretching. My paintings are completed sealed onto the canvas and stretcher bars.
Since my paintings have to be shipping "stretched," it makes the cost to ship much more expensive than if they shipped rolled and unstretched. I include the cost of shipping in my prices.
Care instructions
The only care involved is gently wiping the surface of the painting with a soft microfiber towel, as needed. Polishing the painting every six months or so with a car wax spray and microfiber towels will keep it in pristine condition for vivid and bright viewing. Remember - the paint is sealed underneath many sprayed layers of a protective clear coat.
How do I light my painting?
Hang your painting in a space with a lot of indirect sunlight, and/or under artificial lights. The metals in the paint shine the brightest and show the most color depth under as much light as possible. To completely change the look of the painting, try adding colored light bulbs.
Light bulbs should be positioned so the beam hits the center of the painting when the fixture is adjusted to a 30 degree angle. Just like glass, there will always be some kind of glare due to the many sprayed layers of protective clear coat.
I recommend FEIT Electric Enhance Vivid Natural Light bulbs in 50 watt daylight from Home Depot.
Why do you not produce prints or giclees of your original paintings?
Because of my metallic medium, not only is it extremely difficult to take photos of my shiny and reflective paintings without catching some kind of a glare, but the prints lose the sparkly color depth of the originals.
This means that when you buy one of my original paintings, there will never be another one like it. You own the only one of its kind.
