Welcome to my art studio. I'm Mel Kelly, a mixed media artist based in Kansas City, Missouri.
Our “homing beacon” is often strongest when we are lost. This "Get Lost" abstract map collection explores allowing your mind to get lost - asking questions about your life and all the things you wish for the most. Once you realize what's pulling you, you can map it out and go. :)
This series has been exhibited both in business and gallery settings including The Jones Gallery, GOT Art Gallery on Third, The Corner Boutique and The Wild Way Coffee in KCMO and surrounding areas. You can find my art in collections from Maui to NYC.

Hand-dyed maps in embroidery hoops. The art is dyed first, the shorelines are inked, then mounted in hoops. -

Large 36" x 48" art on gallery canvas. Dyed outside on a sunny day, detailed then stretched onto a wooden frame. -

The canvas is dyed, but not in a bucket. It's painted on with a brush like & often re-applied for richness. -

NAMING THE ART
Each piece is a unique piece of art that gets individually named. The name is part of the story. When you add a piece to your collection, it will come with a name card so you'll never forget the name of your piece.
