Announcement    ARASHIYAMA IS HERE!
A tart green unisex, spring time fragrance.
*Please note, Arashiyama is a light, fresh tart cologne, he is different from many other perfumes I have made. This is not a heavy, deep or overly complex perfume.
He is a fresh, light Yuzu Citrus.

Where is Arashiyama?
Well, I lived in Japan for a decade, and...
Just outside Kyoto is the dream world village “Arashiyama.”
It is mountain village with towering bamboo trails connecting temples, zen gardens and tea houses with the finest spas, restaurants and hotels in all of Japan.

TOP NOTES: Yuzu Citrus
MIDDLE NOTES: Cedar, Ozone Minerals and Salt
BASE NOTES: Cedar, Sandalwood and light Frankincense

“Arashiyama,” opens with a tart green citrus, then a salty cedar wood and ambergris middle before finalizing into a soft and light frankincense and sandalwood dry down. The soft woods only come out on the skin, not if you wear this perfume on your clothes, or testing from paper.

My Love for Japanese Mineral Baths
I love architecture, I love wandering gardens and am a glutton for traditional cuisine. But my favourite place to unwind in Arashiyama is the spa. The “onsen,” as Japanese call their spas.
Here the bathhouses pump mineral waters from deep below ground into large cedar tubs. And my favourite time to visit onsen is New Years, when spa owners toss yuzu (a citrus fruit)
into the cedar tubs. Just imagine the smell!

Imagine what the salty, mineral volcanic waters do when they steam the cedar wood. Imagine how this smells, and then throw in the tart, sliced yuzu fruits (they smell a little bit like grapefruits). Yuzu gives this fresh, citrusy aroma relaxing the mind and body. The mineral waters and essential oils eases aches, relieves stress and soothes sore muscles…Great after a day of hiking mountain trails!

I had to capture this feeling, the feeling of a Japanese winter spa, the smell of the cedar, the mineral waters, the ozone, the damp air and the yuzu. As with all my perfumes,“Arashiyama,” is a public diary entry, an attempt to share my experience at the winter spas of Japan.

About MelegPerfumes

Sales 1,436
On Etsy since 2019

Thick, rich formulas. Made with quality essential oils and ethically sourced animal musks.

To me, perfume is more than a craft. It`s my telephone to the world.
You see, I have a condition called PTSD and making perfumes gives me reason to connect with other perfume enthusiasts from across the world.

My journey to making perfumes started with a large collection of Victorian apothecary books...And some of my perfumes are inspired by the thick, rich, and daring perfumes of the past.

About Inspiration
My love for plants, chemistry, art, history and culture has lead me to create a series of vintage inspired perfumes. And to be honest, some of my perfumes take an educated nose to appreciate. As one critique wrote, "these are perfumes for perfume geeks." Some of my wares are very different from those you`d find at the mall.

I am always looking for the finest materials.
I make perfumes with materials purchased from only reputable suppliers and purchase essential oils from the Robertet company, IFF, Firmenich, from John Steele, Eden Botanicals and other top quality suppliers.

Disclaimer and safety information

My perfumes are not IFRA compliant. As such, I do not sell them on a large scale in European department stores. This does mean Meleg Perfumes are more, or less dangerous that other perfumes...it simply means that I do not limit my formulations. For example, I love natural oak moss. And some people (a very small fraction of the population) are allergic to it. So IFRA compliant perfumes - perfumes which sell in the millions, don't typically use oak moss because there is a chance someone may have a bad reaction. I am not IFRA compliant because I feel its up to the consumer to know their own body, and stop using any type of product should they develop a reaction.

Perfume is not for consumption. No liability will be assumed by “Meleg Perfumes," for any claims arising out of the use or misuse of these perfumes. Keep all perfumes out of reach of children. If you are pregnant or nursing a baby, have heart disease, epilepsy, high blood pressure, diabetes, or any other medical condition that can be affected by essential oils or fragrances, please seek the advice of a health professional before using perfume oils.

My perfumes are highly concentrated, and as such, may cause skin irritation. Keep all essential oils, perfume oils and fragrance products away from eyes and mucous membranes. Skin test all product samples before using. Apply a small amount, less than a drop, to the skin on your inner arm. Do not use if redness or irritation occurs. If redness, burning, itching or irritation occurs, stop using product immediately and wash with soap and water to clean the affected area. If self treatment is not effective, consult your medical provider.
