About

I Love Glass

My fascination with glass began as a child collecting a glass menagerie of animals that worked its way through adulthood. I remember gazing through a glass pane coveting those beautiful glass objects and really not knowing why they intrigued me so. I watched as an artist sculpted them through fire, twisting and turning until a delicate masterpiece formed before my eyes. I was hooked for life in the appreciation of glass manipulation.

Fast forward to a stint in stained glass making which satisfied that yearning until my space was lost to life happenings.

Enter years later, a friend with her own studio with an extensive stained glass background along with glass fusing knowledge who gave me the fundamental beginnings to my own glass fusing experience.

Now, with my own kiln, I am free to experiment and am in only the beginnings of my meandering with glass.

Whether slumping (forming glass over a molded object) or simply fusing glasses together to receive unexpected surprises to their interaction, there is a science and an art to each process. Cleaning, preparing the kiln shelves and/or molds, devising a firing schedule with slow heating and holding times, to cooling slowly and annealing (to insure less chance of breakage,) to simply waiting for the piece to naturally cool to room temperature. No matter what I am melting, the wait until actually glimpsing the much anticipated finale is the most difficult part of the process.

And, surprisingly, I kind of feel a little bit like that guy I watched in awe so very long ago.

I love creating. Pure and simple. Whether I am creating glass pieces, making jewelry, doing graphic design, sewing, crafting, or making a life for my family, creativity is what it's all about!

The fascination of glass has always held me spell-bound. Mixtures flow together as they melt and the anticipation of what will come out of the kiln is so exciting... like a kid going to bed knowing the next day is their birthday. What will be their surprise?
