Products Inspired by a Personal Story
A mia madre, Karen, è stata diagnosticata la demenza di Alzheimer nell'agosto 2017. Poco dopo la sua diagnosi, io e mio padre, insieme a mio marito e i miei due figli, abbiamo deciso di vendere le nostre rispettive case e costruire una casa multigenerazionale in modo che potessimo tutti condividere la responsabilità di prendersi cura di lei.
Le sfide che abbiamo dovuto affrontare erano uniche e spesso estenuanti. Le sue capacità diminuirono, ma il suo desiderio di rimanere un'adulta produttiva rimase. Era uno sforzo quasi costante darle sia ciò che voleva, sia ciò di cui aveva bisogno.
Capisco le sfide che spesso devono affrontare gli operatori sanitari. A volte ci si aspetta che utilizziamo livelli sovrumani di forza, pazienza e resilienza, per i quali spesso non siamo riconosciuti. E così, Memory Mates è nato per supportare gli incredibili caregiver che si dedicano giorno dopo giorno, creando prodotti che mirano a rendere i momenti difficili un po' più facili e luminosi.

My mom, Karen, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia in August 2017. Shortly after her diagnosis, my dad and I, along with my husband and two children, made the decision to sell our respective homes and build a mutigenerational house so that we could all share the responsibility of caring for her.
The challenges we faced were unique and often exhausting. Her capacities dwindled, yet her desire to remain a productive adult remained. It was a near constant effort to give her both what she wanted, as well as what she needed.
I understand the challenges that caregivers often face. Sometimes we are expected to employ super-human levels of strength, patience and resilience, for which we are often unrecognized. And so, Memory Mates was born to support the incredible caregivers who give of themselves day in and day out, by creating products that aim to make difficult times a bit easier and brighter.
