Born into a family with a long, long history of root workers & practitioners, I was taught by my mother, grandmother and many aunts. My grandmother practiced since the 40's when she lived on Beale Street in Memphis, Tn. My mother learned the tradition and handed it down to me as well. All my life I have known of hoodoo and spirituality.... Born in 1965 in Memphis, (in my grandmom's lap), with a caul on my head....I have always been told, how my granny, who was a midwife by then, punched the holes in the caul to help me breath and peeled it off my face so that I could cry......I guess being her first grandchild was why my granny was always doting on me and taught me things "in secret". I never knew why, nor did I think it was odd, until it dawned on me in my teens, that it was hoodoo.. I used to pray with her before sunrise, cook with her and attend church, visited cemeteries and I never thought her prayers and supplications were out of the ordinary, she was a real hoodoo worker & never beat around any bush about it.. She burned candles day & night. ........ She knew that I could be trusted with her traditions. She taught me so much, how to concentrate, how to visualize and it seemed to come easy, she taught me how to be respectful, patient, and also many tricks that I really can't share, but I will share what I can from time to time. She taught me about certain flowers and roots and some I still grow in the backyard..... My mother was the flower child and I learned some of the herbal blends from her. I have a video below of my mom's last garden we grew together before she passed in 2017 & will share some photos of these extraordinary women, who made sure I carried on the tradition in a respectful manner... I will forever miss them.....Everything I do is in memory of them.
