I make fun, colorful, folksy, Americana things from papier-mache.
Hi! I'm Reagan. I'm a wife and mom of two sweet little girls. My family and I live in New Orleans, Louisiana.
When I was 10 years old, I learned I could make virtually anything with some flour, water, salt, newspaper and my imagination. My love for papier-mâché was born in a sweet elderly woman's garage apartment that she converted into an art studio to teach arts and crafts to kids after school.
Although I chose a conventional career path, my passion for handmade things never left me. Throughout my adolescence, young adulthood, and even in professional school, I was always happiest when creating and working with my hands.
However, it wasn't until I was pregnant with my first child that I returned to my beloved medium, papier-mâché. I was searching for months for the perfect baby mobile to complete the nursery. I wanted something totally unique. Something colorful. Something a little Americana, folksy, unexpected, new, and above all else--perfectly imperfect. I wanted a piece of art. And then it came to me.
I'd just make it myself.
And so I did. I made the most colorful and unique animal and flower mobile. I'd never been more proud of something I made.
So I didn't stop there; I kept making more papier-mâché things to hone my craft and develop a style. Another baby, multiple requests from friends, family, and friends of family later, I decided to start this endeavor, Merci Mâché and create new pieces for lovers of unexpected art, just like me.
