About

a romance with lace and all things old

the name: Merletto is an Italian word which translates to lace in English. I named the shop so to pay homage to my 1st exhilarating BIG vintage find, a lovely 1920s lace wedding dress excavated from a dusty New Mexico thrift shop.

being an archaeologist specializing in ceramics and textiles, my passion for finding and wearing unique vintage artifacts is a natural. My shops and blog (http://merlettovintage.blogspot.com/) are dedicated to the celebration and research of the fabulous fashions spanning the ages.

what is unique about Merletto Vintage? Finding unique and classic quality pieces in marvelous condition are of utmost importance to me. Check out what my customers say: stellar feedback reflects a commitment to putting the best vintage on the market at an affordable price.

as much as 75% of my work is made-up of personal shopping for vintage clothing and decor procurement for scores of marvelous gals and gents from around the globe -- a free service I provide to my return customers. I travel around the US in search of the best vintage pieces for my customers. Items in my Merletto etsy shop --> https://www.etsy.com/shop/Merletto -- are the GEMS that I just couldn't leave behind while digging for my clients.

as we are never just trying to fill the aisles in a shop, our team has the freedom to buy what makes our hearts skip a beat. My textile expertise is in American clothing and accessories from the roaring 1920s, 1930s Art Deco and Old Hollywood gems, WWII era Militaria and Workwear, 1940's everyday wear, swing clothing, and NOS shoes, 1950's womens and mens wear from rockabilly to novelty prints, designer vintage Hawaiian dresses, vintage suits, swimwear, and a splashing of hats and buttons, Bakelite, and Lucite.

my young family and I have a blast exploring Texas and nearby states in search of the best fashions and forgotten new old stock treasures.

our sister shop, Merletto Vintage Bride, offers the finest vintage bridal gowns and handmade vintage inspired and vintage re-purposed bridal accessories. I hail from a family floral design tradition of over 75 years based in Los Angeles. My vintage style boutonnière, corsage, and hair pieces are inspired by pieces created by my grandmother in the 1940’s and 1950’s. My simply sweet vintage-inspired custom order flowers are made from hand cut and assembled mulberry paper, featuring feathers and vintage ribbon.

collecting, curating, and selling vintage has allowed me to 1. save and deliver vintage garments to owners that will don them with style and 2. make lifelong connections with the local and international vintage community. I have had the most fun connecting with local pinups through the vintage inspired pin-up photo shoots I do with my photographer hunny. We hold pinup shoots for local gals looking to build up their portfolio. I pride myself on offering quality vintage clothing in a variety of sizes and love to shoot all sized pinups in proper fitting vintage garments.

remember kids, classics truly never go out of style!

Howdy y'all! My name is Cristin and I am currently a resident and vintage seeker of lively and lovely Austin, TX. I am an archaeologist when not diving into my vintage collection, mother of two, lover of vintage and full time pinup!

My Austin mothership shop Merletto Vintage specializes in fine vintage clothing for men and women spanning from the Victorian period into the late 1950s and vintage home decor. We focus on the golden eras of the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s swing clothing and NOS items, 1950s women’s and men’s wear from Rockabilly to Novelty prints, designer vintage Hawaiian dresses, vintage suits, vintage shoes, hats and buttons, Bakelite, and Lucite.

MerlettoVintageBride bridges my passion for vintage bridal gowns, classic vintage bridal styles from the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, and handmade vintage re-purposed and inspired bridal accessories including a fine selection of vintage inspired hair and wedding flowers, boutonnieres, and headpieces. Myself and family hail from a floral design tradition of over 70 years based in Los Angeles. My sisters and mother maintain our Los Angeles floral studio committed to the creation of vintage inspired paper flowers hand made in the traditional floral craft. These vintage style boutonnière, corsage, and hair pieces were inspired by my want to replicate the classic pieces created by my grandmother in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Theses lovely little’s become the perfect accent for any vintage or vintage-inspired outfit or to make Groom and family look as fashionable as Bride. Every vintage-inspired custom order is made from hand cut and assembled mulberry paper flowers, hand wired and arranged in my grandmothers floral style by myself or family in LA, made using natural, renewable resources featuring feathers and vintage ribbon.

Both shops and blog (http://merlettovintage.blogspot.com/) are dedicated to the celebration and research of the fabulous fashions spanning the ages. I feature vintage and vintage inspired items available in my shop, as well as items from shops around the globe, as I strongly believe that by buying vintage you are making unique quality investments in history.

My job allows me to not only save and deliver vintage garments to owners that will don them with style, it has also has allowed me to make lifelong connections with the local and international vintage community. I have had the most fun connecting with local pinups through the vintage inspired pin-up photo shoots I do with my photographer hunny. We hold pinup inspired shoots for local gals looking to build up their portfolio for free. I pride myself on offering quality vintage clothing in a variety of sizes and love to shoot all sized pinups in proper fitting vintage garments.

Remember kids, classics truly never go out of style and by buying vintage, you are recycling which means a happier world.

* CANCELLATION: If you wish to cancel an order, please do so before submitting payment. Once payment is received, you are then bound to the item.

l a y a w a y : we like to have at least 20% down to start, if possible. If not, just convo us to work it out. No refunds on layaway items.
Shipping
Shipping cost include packaging and handling fees, from either our Austin, TX studio or Los Angeles, CA studio.

I ship most items Priority to US destinations. Unless items weigh over 1 lb, which in that case, I ship Parcel Post.

CLOTHING:

Unless otherwise requested, all international packages will be shipped USPS 1st Class (which does not include a tracking number or insurance). Please contact me with any questions you may have concerning the item or shipping. As 1St Class shipment does not allow for insurance to be purchased by the shop, we will not provide a refund if the item is lost. I extend 1St Class shipment options to all buyers as it is significantly less expensive, although does have this risk. Some sellers are not willing to incur the risks of using less expensive services. With all of this said, I have yet to have an item lost and am more than willing to call USPS to assure that your item has cleared US customs and is on its way to you.

Priority shipment options: Send me a message to arrange Priority shipment. THIS IS THE BEST OPTION FOR INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENT as it allows me to protect both my and your investment by purchasing insurance. If an item is lost, this
option allows me to provide a full refund.

CUSTOM WORK: typically take 1 week minimum before they are ready for shipment.

LIGHTING AND OTHER FRAGILE ITEMS:
Expect safe, clean and professional packing.

Packaging vintage items for shipment requires special attention and consideration to ensure that they arrive at their destination in the same condition they left in. We use an abundance of new bubble wrap, custom boxes and other new and re-used packing materials to properly insulate your purchase from damage during transit.
Refunds and Exchanges
TERMS of SALE:

Please READ the description carefully and EXAMINE the photos carefully. All items are sold "AS IS". You can expect descriptions to include any flaws of note. But please remember that you are purchasing vintage and antique merchandise and should expect superficial signs of age and use.

If you have any questions about the item, please email prior to purchasing.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CLOTHING:
✩ SIZING INFORMATION ✩
Vintage clothing fits differently than modern clothing, which is cut loosely to fit a wide variety of body shapes. Vintage clothing is cut much closer to the body than you may be used to. For this reason, it is important that you allow enough wearing ease to move comfortably while wearing your vintage garment. Vintage garments should always be worn with care and consideration of their age.

Vintage garments were often tailored to fit an individual woman and evidence of seams and darts being taken in or out is not uncommon. For this reason, it is often possible to have a vintage garment altered to fit you if your measurements are off by just a bit. I am happy to answer any questions about available seam allowances, darts, and hem allowances before you purchase.

✩ MEASURING YOURSELF ✩
Use a dressmaker’s tape measure, which you can get at your local fabric store.
Measure yourself over the undergarments you plan to wear & not over your clothing.

BUST: measure over the fullest part of your bust while wearing a bra.

UNDERBUST: measure around the fullest part of your ribcage, about midway between your bust and waist.

WAIST: measure around the smallest point of your waist where it naturally curves in.

HIP: measure around the fullest part of your hips. This is usually about 8"-9" below your waist.

SHOULDER TO WAIST: Measure from the top of your shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lie, down the front, following the curve of your bust.

LENGTH: measure from the top of your shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lie, down the front, to the point you want the garment to end at the hem.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please send a message before purchasing.

Vintage shoes - marked vintage size and current US size are not the same. *No returns on items that do not fit, so please please make sure your measurements and those of the shoe you are purchasing jibe. I only buy excellent condition shoes. With that said, they are often over 50 years old and leather may need breaking in/oil to warm up and stretch.

LIGHTING:
Due to concerns over safe return transit, returns are not accepted for this item unless grossly and unintentionally misrepresented in the description.

********************************************************************************************
Condition Assessment:

Mint – Perfect and pristine with no signs of wear.
Excellent – Signs of normal wear/age, no notable flaws.
Very Good – Noted minor flaws, easily repairable or already repaired, wearable as purchased.
Good – Noted minor flaws, most likely repairable or already repaired, wearable with care or after repair.

Fair : Numerous noted flaws, some significant, possibly repairable/wearable.

Poor : Damaged beyond repair with value as a study piece, not wearable.

I disclose all flaws and damage but expect wear consistent with age, i.e. occasional loose/missing seam stitches or missing hook/eye closures, sticky zippers, and other minor condition issues that result from their general age that are not noted in the item description. Vintage garments are not constructed with modern durable polyester thread, and as a result popped stitches and broken seams may be present. Especially after their first wear. Oftentimes, the first time you put on your new garment is the first time in over 60 years that that garment has been worn. Vintage garments are one of a kind pieces that should always be worn with care and consideration of age.

All items are sold in ''as found'' condition. Due to the unique nature of vintage clothing, there might be the occasional slight or trivial imperfection. Although we take great care of the used garment(s) once they reach us, they have had a previous life.

Because my all my items are vintage, they are sold AS-IS. Meaning, vintage items are sold in their present state and the buyer is free to inspect the goods before purchase. I take photos of all condition issues and will send additional photos if requested.

I will gladly provide returns on regular price items with condition that have been grossly misrepresented.

Gross misrepresentation has nothing to do with fit or color difference. I do not grant returns on items that do not fit. If I suspect that a customer is attempting to return an ill-fitting garment under the guise of misinterpretation of condition, I may request that the buyer send me a photo of the garment worn. Color is subject and depends largely on your computer monitor. Therefore, I will not issue refunds based on color difference.

In case of gross misrepresentation does occur, your return will be accepted within the following guidelines: you are returning it within seven days of receipt, the item is in the condition in which it was sent and you have contacted me to communicate your issue. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. *If there is an issue with an item, or if you receive your item and not satisfied, please email me immediately. I will not provide refunds for items you are unhappy with if you do not contact me in a timely manner - 1-2 business days of receiving your item.

**************************************************************************************************
All items have been steam cleaned prior to photo shoots, but are otherwise "Estate sale fresh" and may need to be cleaned depending on the buyers preference. I highly recommend that wedding garments be professionally cleaned prior to wearing.

//////////////////SALE items are final - no returns////////////////////////

In the instance that an item is refunded, the item must be received first, inspected for damages, and then a refund for the item will be provided minus the cost of shipment.
