Merlin's Tales and Other Fun Info

My introduction to wire wrapped artisan jewelry came about because I got run over by a horse. Yep, don't try that at home! Long story short, she took out my rib cage and when you can't do much with a mess of shattered ribs, you have to find something to do to amuse yourself. So, I purchased some beading books and supplies and began my artisan journey. While I still enjoy working with bead design on occasion, I've discovered a new love of working with wire and have found my niche and my passion in the art of designing handcrafted wire wrapped crystals and natural stones.

After almost 25 years, I'm retiring from my career as an equine massage therapy practitioner and instructor and plan to create jewelry on at least a part time basis. I still help run the equine massage school I started and I do still maintain my client base with several of my long-term customers and their horses as I do love working with these magnificent and sensitive creatures. But, now it is time to start focusing more on my jewelry artistry and my little shop on Etsy.

I hope you enjoy browsing my little boutique, "Merlin Stones," which is actually named after my little dog, Merlin. There's a story to tell there as well, but suffice it to say I rescued him from a terribly abusive situation and he in turn rescued me in his own little way.

I was already working with jewelry when Merlin first came to live with me. Soon, I began to notice that a few of my "baubles" were disappearing from a lower shelf that I stored them on. Later, I'd find them tucked in his little dog bed under the cushion like a they were his little "treasures." When this occurred, he almost always had chosen to scamper off with a quartz crystal. What's even more interesting is that three out of the four times he ran off with a crystal, he had chosen a "generator point" which is also known as a "Merlin crystal." And, that my friends, is the story of how my shop got its name!
