Announcement   Quality handmade jewelry - earrings, hoops, cartilage earrings, sleeper hoops, posts, dangles, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, rings and more! All items are handmade personally by myself from quality argentium sterling silver, sterling silver, gold, yellow gold fill and rose gold fill metal puchased from either RioGrande or Umicore. Due to this personal touch, I have a 3 to 7 business day turn-around time for construction and up to 10 business days for Custom work. If you need your item in a hurry please notify me so I can let you know if I can accommodate your time-frame.

All my argentium sterling silver items are now tempered by heat in a kiln to ensure hardness and for discouragement of tarnish. They are now much sturdier than regular sterling silver which does not react to the heat process in the same manner.

Enjoy and do be sure to contact me by clicking on Contact MetalRocks should you have any questions or comments. I appreciate your time!

About

Metal Artist that Rocks! I LOVE Etsy!

My name is Sharon and I’ve been making jewelery most of my life. I love metals, raw or processed, it matters not. I often wake up in the middle night to sketch out designs and I cannot gaze upon the metal without 'seeing' something taking shape in my mind.

In 1987 I took my passion further, attending metal smithing courses at the Southwestern Cultural Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where I fell in love with silver and the marriage of artist and media was manifest! This passion has never tarnished but is polished on occasion, just like the metal itself!

In 1990 I decided to give up my day job and move to beautiful Vancouver Island to pursue my dream of being a full-time jeweler and astrologer, which I had been studying for years. I began doing various markets in Victoria BC, most notably the Bastian Square and Moss Street Markets as well as opening an office on Fan Tan Alley for my Astrology practice. It was a wonderfully busy time with both businesses growing rapidly.

Sungoma Art Centre in Duncan BC had just opened in 1993 where Russell Davies, a goldsmith from England, founded a jewellery school. To further my skills I attended in 1994 and lived on the campus with numerous other smiths learning and being inspired together. By this time I was no longer doing markets but had an agent to sell my creations. It was at this time my love of fusion and melting metal became a passion! Thus the name of my shop, MetalRocks, because to me, it does!!

Then life changed drastically due to a car accident in September 1994 in which I became the victim of a head injury. I had just moved to the area and people around me didn’t realize I was different and it took several years before I gained enough insight to understand what happened to me. Jewelery and astrology went to the sidelines while I struggled to recover. It was many years before I made jewelery again as I acquired a fear of the torch with my head injury and could no longer solder. In my need to create I started making a few pieces though they were confined to simple wire and rock.

I made my first solder joint since the accident on June 19, 2008 and feel I am finally back to being me!! I created my Etsy shop in August 2008 and the rest is history. It was a slow start but I worked hard to make the Etsy platform work for me. Today it is a thriving business for which I couldn't be more grateful! My work is now all over the world in dozens of countries! I love my job and am thankful to all my wonderful customers who have built this shop along side me! THANK YOU!!! :-)

I love what I do! It is thrilling to have my work distributed to the various corners of the world! I am grateful for every customer - for each of you built this shop right along with me. I appreciate and value this opportunity to create and for the platform Etsy has afforded this artist! You all ROCK!

Please know that all my ear wires, posts, soldered hoops, etc., were handmade by myself in my studio. To make my pieces I use a jewellery-making process called fabrication, which utilizes sheet and wire metal available from a smelting company. All my metal is purchased from either Rio Grande or Imperial Smelting unless otherwise noted.

NOTE: All my pieces are handmade to order by myself and therefore your item may vary slightly, however size and materials used will not.

Additional policies and FAQs
Please convo regarding items you wish to order in bulk for wholesale prices. I will consider any reasonable requests.

All my the metal used to construct my pieces is from Imperial Smelting, Rio Grande, G&S Metals or Capilano Rock and Gem, other than up-cycled metals which are made from my own personal odds & ends. The stones have been purchased various places over the years, mostly lapidary shows. I have started to purchase from Etsy and will provide the seller's name in the listing when these stones are used.

JEWELRY CARE:
All sterling silver tarnishes through a process called oxidization but can easily be cleaned with commercial silver cleaners purchased at jewelry counters, drug stores, etc., treated polishing cloths or with the homemade cleaner below. While most commercial cleaners are safe for gemstones, please be VERY careful with pearls, as their luster can be harmed by cleaners so carefully read ALL directions on the container before placing your pearls in them! The following recipe is safe for Sterling, Argentium, gold, silver, brass, copper and bronze.

SIMPLE HOMEMADE CLEANING SOLUTION:

1 Tbsp salt
1 Tbsp baking soda
1 Tbsp dish detergent
1 c hot water

1. Cut a piece of aluminum foil to roughly cover the bottom of a small, glass bowl.
2. Add water to bowl (do NOT add the foil) and heat in the microwave until hot but NOT boiling.
3. Into the bowl place foil and add salt, baking soda and dish detergent.
4. Place your jewelry on top of the foil and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
4. Rinse in cool water and dry completely with soft cloth.
5. Discard solution after use as it will no longer work.

If pieces are heavily tarnished, you may have to repeat process by first soaking items and then cleaning with a soft toothbrush, rinse and repeat the process. Always ensure you dry your items thoroughly.
