About CinciKnifeScales

On Etsy since 2018

I always wanted some nice wood scales for my edc folding knives made from woods like cocobolo and ironwood, so in 2017 I started a new hobby and tried to learn how to make them myself. In time and after many mistakes I started having success and realized I really enjoyed making scales, so I opened my etsy shop.

Frequently asked questions
Knife scale finishing

I like to use natural non-toxic finishes like pure tung oil or beeswax depending on the wood. The natural texture of smooth wood feels great in hand, better than plastic poly finishes imo.

Scales may require additional oil or wax periodically to protect from moisture or drying out.

If your scales do get wet and feel rough or fuzzy after drying, you can lightly smooth them out with a high grit sandpaper ( 2000 or higher recommended) or fine steel wool, then reapply oil or wax.

Squid Scale Installation

If you are having any difficulty tightening the pivot screw down enough to center the blade due to slippage you can use a rubber glove to keep pressure on the smooth bolt head as you tighten the screw. This can sometimes occur when the wood surface is very smooth and finished with wax.
