St. Paul Based Potter

I setup my studio and started making pottery full time in 2004 after completing a BFA at Bemidji State University and 2 year mentorship. I started with a self built 40 cubic ft. crossdraft kiln which later became a 60 cubic ft. gas downdraft reduction kiln that I fire every 6 to 8 weeks.
I make a range of functional stoneware pots and use a narrow range of matte glazes. I tend to have a less is more approach and focus on the most direct way to a form. I work with straightforward open to interpretation shapes and try to express an idea through the natural characteristics of the materials I use. Sometimes it works out that my idea was less important than what ends up happening in the firing or in the spontaneous moments of making and glazing.
