I ordered this house to put out in the spring. I was so thrilled with it when it arrived I went ahead and hung up just to look at it for the rest of the summer. Very well made and lovely.

It's all about the birds!

For more birdhouses information please visit http://www.MikeMerrittArt.com

I’ve always loved woodworking, art and repurposing discarded materials but my career as an artist really took off in the summer of 2009 when I made my first birdhouse as a gift for my girlfriend, Beth, an avid bird lover.

I had some left over roofing tin from an old barn that was taken down so I used that along with scraps of cedar to make her a birdhouse for her birthday. She loved it so much that she encouraged me to continue to design and sell birdhouses.

Beth went to work developing my website and soon my birdhouses gained attention from local art galleries and gift shops. We started to participate in local and regional art festivals and in 2011, I opened my Etsy Shop. My business and my love for the art world has been growing ever since.

I personally handcraft each birdhouse so the manufacturing process has not changed much since I made my first birdhouse however my designs have been fine-tuned thanks to the many knowledgeable birding experts I have met in my travels.

My approach to making each birdhouse has always come from an artistic perspective. The fact that my designs have been adapted to actually be functional, safe environments for birds is where personal interaction with other bird lovers comes into play.

So, as an artist I feel really lucky that I have been able to make a product that is an expression of my love for art, has a positive impact on the environment, and can be used in a functional way by consumers.

I guess you could say that I wear lots of hats! Mike is the artist, designer and crafter and I enjoy the digital side of our business. I love it when Mike comes in from the Birdhouse Factory with a new design and I can't wait to add it to our Shop.

Welcome to my Etsy Shop!

Here you will find a wide variety of beautifully handcrafted Birdhouses made from reclaimed barn tin and western red cedar.

My designs are inspired by my love for wood, nature and reclaimed objects so each piece has a special, and unique character all its own.

It's always an adventure finding old, rusted barn tin! I come across the most interesting folks on that journey and I love meeting them and hearing their stories. I always get so much out of the experience and am able to put that bit of karmic energy back into each birdhouse that I make.

I hope you enjoy browsing my shop and I encourage you to contact me with any questions or comments. And most importantly, thank you for supporting the handmade movement!
