Ho iniziato a pensare di fare penne dopo che un amico locale mi aveva mostrato alcuni dei suoi... Ne ho acquistato uno per mio figlio che sarebbe stato presto distribuito. Una penna tipo "proiettile", è un USAF Defender, e sono molto orgoglioso.
Quando sono stato in grado, ho iniziato a ottenere attrezzature, tornio, sega, levigatrice, ecc. E ho iniziato a fare alcune penne di base. L'idea del negozio affonda le sue radici in un tema militare/patriottico, da cui il nome MilPens. Ora non solo faccio penne militari, ma anche alcune belle penne di tutti i giorni, penne stilografiche e uso alcuni materiali esotici.
Il processo è lo stesso per la maggior parte delle penne... un blocco di materiale 3/4x3/4x5", tagliato nelle lunghezze superiore e inferiore della penna (a volte solo 1), quindi forato al centro. Un tubo di ottone viene inserito al centro con resina epossidica, dopo il suo set viene montato sul tornio del legno e tornito con strumenti in legno per modellare e dimensionare. A seconda del materiale, sarà levigato da 150 -220 grana fino a 12000 grana in alcuni casi. Quindi rifinito in olio e cera, o una finitura "CA", che in effetti protegge il materiale in plastica.
Le restrizioni di bilancio e la salute mi hanno rallentato, ma questo sta cambiando :)

I started to think about making pens after a local friend had showed me some of his...I purchased one for my son that was going on deployment soon. A "bullet" type pen, he is a USAF Defender, and I am very proud.
When I was able, I started to get equipment, lathe, saw, sander, etc. And started making some basic pens. The idea for the shop has it roots in a Military/Patriotic theme, hence the name MilPens. I now not only do Military pens, but also some nice everyday pens, fountain pens, and use some exotic materials.
The process is the same for most pens...a block of material 3/4x3/4x5", cut into top and bottom lengths of pen {sometimes just 1), then center drilled. A brass tube is inserted in the center with epoxy, after its set it is mounted on the wood lathe and turned with wood tools to shape and size. Depending on the material, it will be sanded from 150 -220 grit all the way up to 12000 grit in some cases. Then finished in oil and wax, or a "CA" finish, which in effect protects the material in plastic.
Budget restraints and health have slowed me down, but that is changing :)
