About

The passion to create "Antique book replicas"

"The feeling and look of an ancient grimoire, with the quality and materials of modern bookbinding."

I'm a graphic designer, illustrator, sculptor and artist. Bookbinding, the art of creating books, was born from all those talents.

In the digital age, bookbinding is an art that is slowly fading... Masters are few, and tools are harder and harder to find... MilleCuirs is my way of keeping this form of art alive, and adding my creative vision to this ancestral tradition.

I always liked the big old books, the dusty grimoires in movies and in videogames. The books of legend in famous fantasy literature. I create books that I would want to see in a mysterious fantasy land, in the depth of a dark dungeon or from the hands of a dusty skeleton in a forgotten library.

How it all started...

...Long time ago, in the mysterious and frozen province of Quebec, Canada, I was trying to find old leather books. Ancient grimoires like the ones we see in museums or in movies. When I could not find such blank books anywhere, I had no choice but to started creating them myself.

My early books where quite archaic. I was creating book designs that were more "what we think medieval was" , than actual middle age book designs.

My friends were so impressed, that I started creating books for them. People started noticing my friends' books.

My friends who were live action role players (LARP) were enjoying the feel of an "ancient grimoire" in their activities at a level never seen before to them. LARP organisations started ordering multiple books to give to the players while doing huge ceremonies and scenes.

I built a simple web page, a deviantart profile and people started ordering custom books: guestbooks for weddings, personal organizers, sketchbooks, gifts, binders, ledgers, notebooks, journals etc.

I started doing artisan fairs, trade shows and more recently comic-cons.

Reactions of the public is always fascination and amazement. I really enjoy the customer contact at such events.
