Thank you so much!
I grew up in a world of family heirlooms and antiques. We understood what it meant when our parents said they were going “antiquing.” My family had a large collection of wonderful paintings, carpets, porcelain, and furniture, but that did not stop them from adding to their already overcrowded house.
My mother loved to wander through antique shops, not so much to find a bargain, but rather to find something rare, charming, and having a history, whilst my dad loved a bargain.
I grew up with those attitudes as well. The heart starts to pound, and my trained eye surveys the piles of tables.
Nothing is nicer than a beautiful flea market find, and the best place to find something truly special is all the way in Paris. The french capital is world renowned for their endless flea markets that you're more than likely to find pieces of great value, or pure beauty.
When I am in Paris to visit my parents, I have the chance to visit any of the markets; but I wanted to buy a lot, which is not ideal for the luggage situation. The most famous flea market in Paris is the Marche aux Puces de St Ouen. It consists of several different markets, ranging from classic french antiques, to midcentury-modern pieces. There's nothing more luxurious than having something that shows a little bit of age in your home, or on your body, and what better place to find that special thing than in the City of Love?
France's many flea markets are great places to find collectables, but now that I have been living in England for the last 20 years, I have to admit, the British are also fabulous with their vintages.
When I return to my home in London, from my trips to Paris, I make it my mission to try and encapsulate the buzzing atmospere and sheer «londoness» of the Great Portobello Antiques Market along with the wonders on display. Every time I visit it, it never fail to please. Furniture, trinkets, jewellery , and more antiques than your grandmother's wardrobe! You name it, it's all there to buy...
As they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure...well antiques and vintages are my pleasure and I share it with you through my shop....
