Empty-Nester Opens Etsy Store!
Hmmm....is there such a thing as an "Etsy-Nester"?
Although my main focus for the past thirty years has been on my family--husband, children and then grandchildren--I've always been able to incorporate artistic pursuits into my life in one way or another. Decorating my home has been a great source of creative pleasure for me. Also, as a result of having children, I've done quite a bit of volunteer artwork for the local schools, mainly in the form of set design.
Another interest I've been able to pursue (all too easily!)--during my children's growing-up years and after--has been collecting. I've explored quite a few areas in this regard...pottery, globes, salt and peppers, cowboy kitsch...the list could go on and on. As my collections have grown and my house has remained the same size, some of these beloved items have had to take a back seat, ending up in boxes in the garage. I'd often think about passing them on, but didn't know quite how to go
Several years ago I got interested in genealogy, and as a result of using an on-line genealogy source I learned bit by bit how to upload my cherished old family photos, edit them and make books out of them. As I'm not much of a "tech" person, I was quite proud! And I realized that having an Etsy store was something I'd be able to manage.
I don't do Facebook, nor do I text or tweet, but my Etsy stores are places I can share a bit of myself with others. Anyone can see what I've been up to by taking a "walk" through MinaMinette and/or JPennDesigns. I spend much of my day creating artwork, sifting through my collections for items I'm willing to part with, and generally working at making my store a fun place to visit.
I am amazed at the talented folk who live here on Etsy. I could spend hours...and I often do...just lurking on the sites of other artists and collectors and drinking it all in. It's a wonderful place, and I am very happy to be here!
As of June 2013 I opened another Etsy store, JPennDesigns, which will feature my artwork. MinaMinette will remain open to sell vintage collectibles.

I am a wife, mother, grandmother and mostly self-taught artist living in Monterey, CA.
