About

Minnie + George is a line of hand-crafted leather goods for women and men.

At Minnie + George, I design and create high quality leather bags, belts, wallets, and accessories. I live in Portland, Oregon and it is an amazing place that nurtures an independent and creative spirit. I love how dedicated this city is to honoring and supporting its small businesses and local artisans. All of my products are created, by hand, in this environment with genuine love, passion and care.

Minnie + George is named after my parents, Minnie and George Caldwell. They have been the inspiration and set the example for everything that is near and dear to my heart. Their steadfast commitment to each other, their family, friends and community is the same kind of commitment that I try each day to emulate in everything that I do. My goal is to demonstrate the value of hard work, an appreciation for quality, and an eye for clean and classic style in my leather work. All are qualities that I learned from my parents.

I’m really fond of minimalistic, classic style. I want something I make to be both functional and fashionable for a lifetime of loving use and wear. Though I enjoy taking notice of the latest trends, I use them solely as a point of inspiration. I’m not dictated by them. I aim to connect to the beauty of simplicity. To me, it outlasts any current trend. It’s timeless.

At Minnie + George, I am proud to employ the traditional craft of hand-stitched leatherworking. Hand-stitching is the strongest way to construct a bag. All the stitching is completely hand-cut and hand-stitched using 5 cord waxed linen thread. It is double needle saddle stitched, with an overhand knot in each stitch, so even if one side is severed the seam will not come undone. The stitching is also set deep in a cut channel so it cannot be abraded by wear.

I'm passionate about being a maker. The small maker revolution is so important. It's a tangible way to fight against human rights abuses which are so common in fast fashion and mass produced goods. I source my hides from a 4 generation family business in Oregon (Oregon Leather Co). I buy American tan hides.
