Doing what I love
I have always loved the idea of sewing. As a little girl I would cut up my old tee shirts and hand sew doll clothes late into the night . As I got older, I still loved the idea but didn't dare try to learn the real way. I hoarded fabric long before I could actually do anything with it. One day on a whim I signed up for sewing classes at my local fabric store. That 4 course class turned into a lifelong addiction. I opened an Etsy shop to support my addiction, and so I could buy more fabric guilt-free.
I am so thankful that I get paid to do what I love!
Seldom do I get to spend hours at a time on a project, but instead bits of time here and there throughout the day. I juggle caring for the kids, cleaning the house, cooking, and sewing . Dash into the sewing room, go make lunch, finish up a seam, clean up lunch, iron out seams, cut new pattern, put baby down for nap, pick out new color combo, start dinner, shut doors until the kids are in bed, open up and dive in again.
People often ask me where I get my inspiration and how I thought of this or that idea. Hmmm. I have yet to come up with a good answer. I could say the thing that inspires me most is color combinations. My ideas usually start with the color ideas in my head. The color combo then turns into a boy or girls clothing item, still in my head. From there the idea is formed into a basic garment i.e, shirt, pants, dress, etc. and only then do I start to cut and sew. The item then tends to sit for a while until I decide upon the final color accents and small details. After that point of decision, nothing can stop me from finishing up the piece of clothing. A finished product always brings a moment of satisfaction.
I like to think outside the box when it comes to kids clothing. As a mom of five myself, I know what other moms want. Comfort mixed with cuteness. Quality fabric choices. Clothing that works for any occasion. Hip yet playful designs. Eye-catching colors. I incorporate all of these things into everything I design for kids.
In the end, I want the customer to love their item. I want the piece of clothing to be a go-to item in their child's wardrobe. I know I have succeeded when mom AND child love the garment. That means that quality, cuteness and comfort are apparent.
With every garment I design and sew, my main goal is to mix cute with comfort. What child does not want comfort and what mom does not care about cute? I am to please both.
I do want you to know that while I take pride in making quality hand made clothing, remember that it is handmade from start to finish by my and only my own two hands. Nothing is made by a machine in a factory, so be trusted that what I sell in my shop is only the same quality I wear on my own children.
